Florida High School Student Dies in Tragic 2-Car Crash

A heartbreaking incident occurred in Florida over the weekend as a high school scholar lost his life in a devastating two-car collision. Sammy Lahik, an 18-year-old student at Windermere High School in Orange County, tragically passed away in the accident on Saturday, March 1. Sammy was on the cusp of embarking on a new chapter in his life, having recently celebrated his acceptance to Duke University.
The fatal crash involved a 2024 Toyota Camry carrying Sammy and two other individuals, which collided with a 2024 BMW M2 along Central Florida Parkway late in the evening. Reports from NBC affiliate WESH-TV and CBS affiliate WKMG-TV revealed that both vehicles were travelling at high speeds when the drivers lost control. The BMW attempted to change lanes, resulting in a collision with the Toyota, causing it to hit a light pole and ejecting Sammy from the vehicle.
The aftermath of the crash claimed the lives of three other individuals, including a 24-year-old passenger in the BMW and two occupants from the Toyota. Moad Machti, 21, who was seated in the front of the Toyota, and the BMW’s driver, Raul Gomez, 26, were pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, a 20-year-old individual who was driving the Toyota sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
It was revealed that Sammy and the other occupants in the Toyota had just left Ramadan services before the tragic incident occurred. Described as active and academically gifted individuals by Imam Tariq Rasheed, they left an indelible mark on their community with their brilliance and kindness.
Having recently been accepted into Duke University and honoured as an Orange County Public Schools “Super Scholar,” Sammy’s untimely death has left a void in the hearts of many.
