Utah Mom Accused of Kidnapping Son’s 11-Year-Old Bully Until He Apologized

A Provo woman has been charged with child kidnapping and aggravated child abuse following an alarming incident involving an 11-year-old boy. Authorities report that Shannon Marie Tufuga, aged 40, allegedly forcibly took the boy from his neighbourhood on 17 September 2025, purportedly to compel him to apologise to her son for bullying.

The troubling events began when Tufuga reportedly drove around the local area searching for the boy she believed was tormenting her child. According to court documents, when Tufuga identified the 11-year-old riding his bike, she stopped her vehicle directly in front of him and insisted that he get inside her car.

Once in her vehicle, Tufuga took the boy to her home without notifying his parents. Charging documents detail that, upon arrival, she demanded that the boy apologise to her son. Following the apology, Tufuga allegedly escalated the situation by threatening physical harm, reportedly stating that she could have her husband assault the boy. She also warned him he was fortunate that she had not run over his bicycle.

After the confrontation at her home, Tufuga ultimately returned the boy to his neighbourhood. However, the incident has had lasting effects on the child. According to the filings, this experience has resulted in “serious emotional distress,” high anxiety, and significant alterations to the boy’s daily routine.

The criminal charges against Tufuga were formally made public on Monday, 23 March. In addition to child kidnapping, she faces a count of intentional or knowing aggravated child abuse. The allegations raise serious concerns regarding the safety and welfare of children within the community.
