Caleb Moore was last seen around the middle of December, specifically on the 14th or 15th. His family reported him missing on December 29 after a lengthy period of silence with no communication from him. At the time of his disappearance, Moore had been described as wearing green overalls. He was known to frequently walk around the county and also used a bicycle as a mode of transportation.

Concerns regarding Moore’s mental health were raised prior to his disappearance, as authorities noted that he may have had an altered mental state. This made the search efforts particularly urgent and significant for both the family and the local community.
A thorough search operation took place on March 13, led by both the sheriff’s office and a family-organised volunteer group. The search included the deployment of specially trained K-9s, which are adept at detecting human remains. During this effort, the cadaver dogs indicated a response to an abandoned well situated on the property at 9120 Highway 69 South.
Given the nature of the search, safety measures necessitated the use of heavy machinery to ensure access to the well’s depths. Authorities proceeded cautiously, aiming to secure the site while preparing to recover any potential remains. By March 15, a combined team from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation successfully retrieved the remains from the well.
Following the recovery, the remains were transferred to a medical examiner’s office for further examination and identification. On March 17, officials announced the results of rapid DNA testing, confirming the remains belonged to Caleb Moore.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Moore’s disappearance and subsequent death remains ongoing. Authorities are continuing to gather information and have encouraged anyone with relevant details to come forward. Individuals with potential information are urged to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 731-642-1672, or to reach out to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
The tragic development of Moore’s case has generated concern and sadness within the local community, as residents remember him and reflect on the implications of the search and discovery efforts. Family members and friends are grappling with the loss, as the answers they sought have led to a heart-wrenching conclusion.
As investigations continue, the sheriff’s office is keen to ensure that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined, highlighting the commitment to seeking justice and understanding the circumstances surrounding Moore’s disappearance.
