Eight individuals were hospitalised following a serious accident involving a golf cart and a car in Wesley Chapel, Florida, on Saturday, March 14. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., and the victims were promptly rushed to nearby medical facilities for evaluation and treatment of their injuries. Fortunately, the two occupants of the car, both 17 years old, emerged unscathed.

According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the golf cart, which was being driven by a 43-year-old male, was in the designated golf cart lane when it attempted a U-turn. This maneuver reportedly placed it directly in the path of a Honda sedan that was travelling behind the cart. The subsequent collision caused the cart to overturn, resulting in all eight occupants being ejected from the vehicle.
Among those injured in the golf cart were members of a local family. Kay Nass, a nearby resident, revealed that her sister, Amy Guerrette, her brother-in-law Chris, and their four children were involved in the incident. The family was initially reported to have sustained serious injuries, and some victims required airlift transport by a Bayflite helicopter due to the severity of their conditions.
Nass later described the dire situation surrounding her sister, indicating that Amy was unable to communicate post-accident. In a statement, she revealed, “She had so many injuries, they don’t want anything to get moved or hurt.” Reports suggested that rescuers had to extricate Amy from the wreckage, where she sustained numerous serious internal injuries. Notably, she suffered from multiple fractured ribs, a collapsed lung, and a neck herniation, having been resuscitated multiple times before regaining a pulse.
Chris Guerrette also experienced significant health repercussions as a result of the crash, suffering from a severe concussion that is expected to hinder his capacity to work in the near future. Three of their children were released from the hospital shortly after the incident, with the eldest, Kristianna, returning home on March 17 after receiving treatment for a skull fracture.
As the community rallied around the Guerrette family, Nass initiated a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of easing the financial burden stemming from medical expenses and lost wages following the accident. In a positive development, she shared that Amy was taken off the ventilator and managed to speak briefly during her recovery at the hospital, providing a glimmer of hope for the family.
Despite the tragedy, Nass expressed immense gratitude for the overwhelming support from friends, family, and the wider community. “We are so thankful for every single donation that poured in so quickly… it’s heartwarming to see such a diverse group of people come together to support them,” she stated in a recent update.
The FHP has confirmed that the two teenagers in the Honda sedan were unharmed, and the driver, a 17-year-old girl, remained at the site following the incident. Currently, it remains uncertain whether any formal charges or citations will be issued in relation to the crash, as investigations are still underway.
The Honda sedan ultimately came to a stop along the roadside, partially submerged in a nearby pond, highlighting the chaotic aftermath of the collision. Local authorities continue to gather evidence and will release further information as it becomes available.
