A Milwaukee mother is bravely recounting her traumatic experience following a head-on collision that claimed the life of her unborn child four months ago. Jae Morgan, now 33, has been left to navigate the emotional aftermath of the tragic accident while grappling with her own serious injuries.

The incident took place early on 26th October 2025, when Morgan was just 22 weeks pregnant. She was returning home from her job with Amazon when her car was struck by a vehicle driven by 39-year-old Jorge Alvarez Mathuzima, who was reportedly driving the wrong way on the freeway. Morgan described the chaotic moments leading up to the crash, recalling, “I remember just lights coming at me, but I thought that they were on the other side of the barrier.” Despite her attempt to evade the oncoming danger, it was too late; the collision resulted in her car rolling over and catching fire.
Rescue efforts by first responders were swift, as they managed to extract Morgan from her vehicle despite its fiery condition. In the ambulance on the way to the hospital, she was overwhelmed with concern for her unborn child. “I kept asking, ‘Is my baby all right?’” she revealed, still haunted by the moment she learned the devastating news of her son’s fate. Tragically, Morgan’s baby, whom she intended to name Tyme, would not survive; before she could deliver him, his heart had to stop beating.
Morgan described that horrific day as one filled with an unbearable wait as she anticipated the moment she would learn of her son’s death. “That day was just horrible,” she lamented, and her sorrow deepened as medical staff eventually confirmed the loss shortly after midnight. Compounding her grief, she underwent further surgery to address injuries sustained during the crash, which included damage to her hip, as well as burns and broken bones.
The emotional toll of the accident does not only weigh heavily on Morgan but also on her two children. Her nine-year-old son, Jaédem, seems to process the tragedy more easily, whereas her six-year-old daughter, Tyle, struggles to comprehend the significance of their loss. In an effort to provide some comfort, Morgan gifted Tyle a stuffed animal from the hospital, which Tyle has named Tyme. “She talks to him,” Morgan shared, noting that it brings her daughter a semblance of joy amidst the grief.
Following the crash, both Morgan and Mathuzima were taken to the hospital, where tests revealed Mathuzima’s blood alcohol content was around twice the legal limit in Wisconsin. Consequently, he faces multiple charges, including first-degree reckless homicide and operating while intoxicated causing injury. In court documents, it was noted that a placental abruption consistent with the crash ultimately led to the baby’s death.
As Mathuzima remains in custody, Morgan has been forced to confront her feelings of anger towards him. In a moment of self-reflection, she recognised that moving forward would require her to forgive him. “I had to pray a lot of my anger away for me to just even be able to forgive him,” she stated, underscoring her desire to heal for the sake of her children.
Currently, Morgan resides with her grandparents while she seeks new employment and has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help ease her financial burdens post-accident. Through the outpouring of support she has received, Morgan expresses a profound sense of gratitude. “I am truly inspired by the people I’ve encountered,” she remarked, recognising the strength she has drawn from her community and her faith.
In reflecting on her ordeal, Morgan emphasised her determination to regain her strength as she fights through this difficult period. “It’s a blessing that I’m still here,” she said, underscoring the resilience of the human spirit amidst tragedy.
