Furnish, aged 63, acknowledged John’s resilience, stating, “He’s great. He’s battling on. He’s keeping busy and moving forward.” The couple’s commitment to family is evident, with Furnish noting, “He’s happy being at home as a family with our sons,” referring to their two children, Zachary, 15, and Elijah, 13. This strong familial bond has played a significant role in John’s decision to step back from touring, as he prioritises time spent with his loved ones.

The couple’s journey together began with a civil union in 2005, followed by marriage in December 2014, coinciding with their ninth anniversary. They welcomed their two sons via surrogate, building a close-knit family that Furnish highlights as central to their happiness.

Earlier this month, John candidly explained the impact of losing sight in his right eye, a result of an eye infection contracted during a holiday in France in 2024. Reflecting on this tumultuous period, John described the emotional toll it has taken, remarking, “It’s been devastating,” and elaborated on the challenges of living with such a significant visual impairment.
Furnish’s comments came shortly after John shared insights into his health struggles at the New York Film Festival premiere of his documentary, “Elton John: Never Too Late.” During this event, John expressed his vulnerability, explaining the extent of his medical history, saying, “To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left.” His frank disclosure included a list of surgeries he has undergone, from the removal of tonsils to the complete absence of a prostate and numerous joints.
Despite these challenges, John maintains an optimistic outlook. He stated, “I’ve had the most incredible life, and there is hope,” adding that he remains patient for advancements in medical science that could aid in restoring his sight. His ability to find positivity amidst adversity serves as an inspiration to many.
Recently, John has dedicated time to his family, embracing the role of a devoted parent. This renewed focus was highlighted by the announcement that a family portrait featuring John, Furnish, and their sons will be displayed in London’s National Portrait Gallery. The couple expressed their pride at having their family documented by renowned photographer Catherine Opie, stating, “It is a huge honour.”
John’s love for his family is palpable, and he has expressed his gratitude for having such a supportive network. He described Furnish, Zachary, and Elijah as the reasons for his happiness, stating, “I want to thank David and Zachary and Elijah for making me the happiest man in the world.”
As John continues to navigate his health issues, he remains committed to his family and optimistic about the future. His resilience amid adversity is a testament to the support he receives from those closest to him, reinforcing the importance of family during challenging times. Moving forward, John seems determined to embrace life and remain hopeful for medical advances that may aid his journey to recovery.
