**Tragic Loss During Dream Holiday: Man’s Proposal Plans Cut Short**

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a 40-year-old Englishman has spoken of the devastating loss he faced during what was meant to be a joyous family holiday in Turkey. JJ Warner, from Hull, had planned to propose to his girlfriend Sophie Runkee on this trip, but tragedy struck on the very day he intended to pop the question.

The couple, who had been inseparable since meeting on a dating app, had travelled to Marmaris with their infant son, as well as Sophie’s two older children from a previous relationship. In a recent interview, JJ reminisced about their deep connection, stating, “We clicked immediately — we were soulmates. I had never really opened up to anyone before, but I trusted Sophie straightaway.”

However, their life together took a dark turn earlier in 2024 when JJ discovered a lump on his body, leading to a diagnosis of melanoma. “I was told the first lump was a melanoma, skin cancer, and it hit us hard,” he recalled. Faced with the reality of his health, JJ and Sophie decided to take a family holiday to provide some joy for the children before he undergoes cancer treatment.

JJ had meticulously planned a proposal during the trip, having purchased an engagement ring, booked a special dinner, and informed Sophie’s children about his intentions, all while keeping the surprise from Sophie. He expressed that he wanted the moment to reflect how much she meant to him, saying, “Sophie had no idea what was coming.”

On the fateful day of the planned proposal, Sophie went out for drinks, seeking to unwind, while JJ stayed back to care for the children. Hours later, tragedy struck when Sophie was discovered unresponsive on the hotel balcony. Despite JJ’s efforts to administer CPR and the swift arrival of emergency services, Sophie was pronounced dead the next day after failing to regain consciousness.

JJ described the sorrowful moment he had to identify her body, which occurred the evening he had planned to propose. “It was surreal; I felt like I was living a nightmare, holding her hand and saying goodbye,” he reflected with palpable grief.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, JJ battled feelings of guilt, believing he might have saved her had he checked on her earlier. “For months, I tortured myself with ‘what if,’” he recalled, grappling with the painful memories of that night. However, a recent autopsy report revealed that Sophie had an undiagnosed heart condition that ultimately led to her death, providing JJ some solace, although still deeply saddened by the loss.

“It’s a relief, in some ways, to know nothing could have been done,” he said, noting that doctors had confirmed Sophie had previously suffered a heart attack without her knowledge.

Returning to England now a single father, JJ is determined to raise Sophie’s children as his own, proudly sharing that they now all share the same surname. “We’ve had some really tough times, but we’ve got through them together. I can’t put into words how proud I am of the children,” he stated, highlighting the bond they share as they navigate their grief.

On special occasions, including the first birthday of his youngest son, JJ engages in heartfelt rituals to honour Sophie’s memory. “We send a Chinese lantern to heaven for her,” he shared, acknowledging the pain while also providing a means for the children to cope with their loss.

JJ holds onto the love he shared with Sophie, stating firmly, “Sophie is my one true love, and her memory will live on through her children. Though we were never legally married, in my heart she will always be my wife.”
