In a heartwarming rescue mission, two German Shepherd puppies were saved from perilous conditions during a freezing cold snap in Cokato, Minnesota. The rescue took place in early February when temperatures plummeted to an alarming -25 degrees Fahrenheit, posing a severe threat to the young pups’ lives.

The puppies, named Cleo and Delta, were discovered cowering under a stranger’s porch, desperately seeking shelter from the brutal cold weather. Their rescue story began when a vigilant Ruff Start Rescue employee came across a distressing post on a local city’s Facebook page, highlighting the puppies’ dire need for immediate assistance.

Upon spotting the post, Kendra, the Ruff Start Rescue employee, wasted no time and sprung into action. Despite the puppies being initially elusive, efforts were intensified the following day with a coordinated rescue plan that involved providing essential supplies such as blankets, towels, treats, food, and even a rotisserie chicken to lure the scared pups out of hiding.

Meg Larson, the intake manager at Ruff Start Rescue, recounted the rescue, stating that after some patience and the enticing aroma of the chicken, both puppies were successfully captured. However, the true extent of their suffering became evident in the daylight – the pups were severely underweight and had frostbite, indicating the harsh conditions they had endured.

It is believed that Cleo and Delta were callously abandoned by someone, adding to their already traumatic experience. Larson revealed that just a week prior, two other puppies resembling Cleo and Delta were discovered in a neighbouring town, leading rescuers to suspect a distressing pattern of abandonment.

Despite their traumatic past, the resilient puppies are making remarkable progress in their foster homes, slowly learning to trust humans and adapt to a life of care and kindness. They are gradually acclimating to their new environment, gaining weight, and showing promising signs of socialisation and playfulness.

While Cleo and Delta continue to recover and prepare for eventual adoption, it is emphasised that they will require a patient and understanding forever home due to their past experiences and ongoing rehabilitation.
