Teacher Faces Charges in ATV Accident Resulting in the Deaths of North Carolina High School Football Players

A teacher has been arrested and charged in connection with the tragic deaths of two North Carolina high school football players who were killed in an ATV crash last summer. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety confirmed that Ashley Marie Darity, 34, is facing two counts of felony involuntary manslaughter related to the August 2024 deaths of Layne Jones and Jayden Reynaldo.
The incident occurred when Jones and Reynaldo were riding a 2015 Polaris Sportsman ATV on August 25, 2024. The ATV crashed into a tree in Transylvania County, resulting in the untimely deaths of both teenagers at the scene. It has been reported that the two teenagers may have attended a house party prior to the accident. Both Jones and Reynaldo were members of the football team at Rosman High School.
