A North Carolina family continues to search for answers more than a year after 34-year-old Rakem Elliot disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Rakem was last seen on January 12, 2025, after exiting his brother’s car along an off-ramp of Interstate 40 in Raleigh following a disagreement.

According to a statement from the Raleigh Police Department (RPD), the incident occurred after an argument between Rakem and his brother, Arsenio Elliot, while they were returning from a family visit. The dispute reportedly ignited due to Rakem’s decision to play music at a volume that Arsenio found unacceptable. The argument intensified and ultimately led to Rakem exiting the vehicle on an exit ramp near the I-40 overpass, where he began to walk away.
Arsenio was the last person to see his brother, and after Rakem exited the car, he reportedly drove off. Witnesses noted that Rakem struck the windshield of Arsenio’s car, leaving a crack, before departing the scene. Following the incident, their father, Dwight Elliot, arrived at the location only ten minutes later but found his son was gone.
Prior to his disappearance, Rakem did not have a mobile phone or wallet in his possession, which has complicated the investigation into his whereabouts. Surveillance footage from the North Carolina Department of Transportation captured him walking along the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 shortly after he left the vehicle. Despite this crucial evidence, the lack of personal belongings has hindered efforts to trace his movements thereafter.
Dwight Elliot has been vocal about his devastation, stating, “We haven’t heard from my son since that night.” This situation has taken an emotional toll on the family, with Dwight expressing his unwavering hope for Rakem’s safe return.
