Nick Reiner Pleads Not Guilty to Parents’ Murders at Arraignment

Nick Reiner has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following the tragic deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, in their Los Angeles home. In a court appearance on February 23, 2025, Reiner entered a not guilty plea to the accusations against him, which date back to events in December 2025.

The 32-year-old, who appeared in a brown jumpsuit with a shaved head, was in Los Angeles Superior Court where he faced Judge Theresa McGonigle. Prosecutors contend that on December 14, 2025, Nick fatally stabbed his parents during the early hours at their residence in Brentwood. Authorities state that after the alleged attacks, Nick fled the scene. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, he now faces serious consequences if convicted, potentially leading to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or even a death sentence as a result of the special circumstances surrounding the case.

The defendant has been held in custody without bail since his arrest on the night of the incident, which occurred shortly after police were called to the family home. It was reported that the Reiners’ youngest child, their daughter Romy, tragically discovered their father’s body, only to later learn that her mother had also lost her life.

When emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the residence around 3:30 PM that day, they attempted to provide medical assistance. However, they pronounced both Rob and Michele Reiner deceased at the scene, due to multiple injuries inflicted with a sharp object, as indicated by initial findings.

Rob and Michele Reiner had been married since 1989 and were well-known figures in the community. Together, they had two children, Nick and his brother Jake, as well as their daughter Romy. Rob’s earlier marriage to actress Penny Marshall, which lasted from 1971 to 1981, brought additional prominence to his family life, as he had adopted Marshall’s daughter, Tracy, from that union.

In the wake of this traumatic event, Nick’s siblings released a heartfelt statement reflecting on their profound grief. They described their parents as their “best friends” and expressed an overwhelming sense of loss. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” the statement read. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience.”
