Freeman, aged 36, and Chelsea, aged 34, are already proud parents to their sons Charlie, 9, and twins Max and Brandon, aged 5. In their joint Instagram post, they revealed that their new addition is on the way through surrogacy, expressing immense gratitude to the woman assisting them in this journey while also respecting her privacy.

In the heartwarming photograph, Chelsea is seen donning a black turtleneck, standing behind their three boys, while Freddie beams beside her. Charlie proudly holds up an ultrasound image, with his younger brothers flanking him in matching white sweaters. The couple’s caption reflected their joy, stating, “Worth the wait đ€ Baby #4 is on the way and our hearts are already so full. What do you think⊠brother or sister? đ€đđ©·.”
Freeman and Chelsea have maintained openness about their desire to grow their family. In a previous interview with ESPN in February 2021, Chelsea shared that Freddie has always had a strong aspiration to be a father. “As long as I’ve known him, he said that since he was a little boy, he always knew he wanted to be a dad,” she remarked, highlighting that fatherhood holds just as much significance for him as his impressive career in baseball.
Their family journey began after they were married in 2014, with Charlie being born in 2016. Following challenges in conceiving again, the Freemans opted for surrogacy to expand their family. Remarkably, just days prior to their surrogate’s embryo transfer, Chelsea discovered she was pregnant, resulting in a sudden growth from one child to three; Brandon was born in 2020, and Max arrived in early 2021.
Referring to their youngest boys amusingly as âtwins with a twist,â the Freemans have faced their share of challenges as parents. In March, Chelsea spoke candidly about her son Max’s health crisis, detailing a harrowing experience during the 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star Game held in Texas where she accompanied her husband and their three children. Sadly, all three boys fell ill, but Max’s condition escalated, leading to hospitalisation.
During a check-in, Chelsea described how Max experienced severe symptoms that required immediate medical attention. “Max coded at check-in, and all of a sudden we were surrounded by countless doctors and nurses,” she recounted, detailing how he was temporarily paralysed and needed intensive monitoring for a potential lung collapse.
Max was initially suspected to have Guillain-BarrĂ© syndrome, a rare neurological disorder where the immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves. Chelsea explained the need for an assortment of urgent tests, including a lumbar puncture â widely known as a spinal tap â alongside a full-body MRI to exclude more severe diagnoses.
After a tense period, both tests confirmed that Max had Guillain-BarrĂ© syndrome, which Chelsea described as “the hardest eight days of our lives.” Yet, their family encountered a miracle, as Max transitioned from being critically ill in the paediatric intensive care unit to returning home just over a week later, demonstrating robust resilience.
Chelsea later took to Instagram to share updates on Max’s remarkable recovery, announcing that he had achieved significant progress and was 80% recovered. In an accompanying photo, she expressed immense gratitude for the improvements observed during Max’s recent neurologist check-up.
In her post, she wrote, “He is finally above his pre-GBS weight. He is still working hard in physical therapy to rebuild strength in his legs and improve his condition.” This experience has instilled in her a deep appreciation for health and normalcy, which she succinctly conveyed, âI realise how precious health is now. It is everything.”
As the Freemans look ahead to welcoming their fourth child, they continue to navigate the ups and downs of family life while celebrating milestones and cherishing moments together. Their openness about their experiences may resonate with many, and as they embark on this new journey, support from their fans will undoubtedly accompany them every step of the way.
