Jamie-Lynn Sigler Set to Portray Doctor Living with MS on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler is gearing up to make her debut on the hit medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, in its 22nd season. The news broke as ‘Deadline’ reported that Sigler will take on the role of Dr. Laura Kaplan, a urologist who is living with multiple sclerosis, a chronic condition Sigler herself has been battling since her diagnosis in 2002.
The character of Dr. Kaplan was specially crafted for Sigler, who has been open about her journey with MS over the years. The 44-year-old actress is set to bring her personal experiences with the condition to the small screen in this groundbreaking role on Grey’s Anatomy.
Sigler’s character, Dr. Kaplan, is slated to make her first appearance on the show in the upcoming episode titled “Heavy on Me,” scheduled to air on January 15, 2,208. In this episode, Dr. Kaplan will be invited to Grey Sloan by Catherine Fox (played by Debbie Allen) to provide a fresh perspective on a case involving Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.).
Both Sigler and the producers of Grey’s Anatomy were keen on ensuring that Dr. Kaplan’s character is not solely defined by her MS diagnosis but is shown as a capable professional leading a fulfilling life. The actress had kept her MS diagnosis private for 14 years before revealing it in 2016.
