Recently at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, a heart-wrenching incident took place where an Army officer’s wedding dress and other valuable items were stolen. Amber Oglesby, who had just returned home for Thanksgiving after a stint in Kosovo, discovered that her carry-on bag, containing her precious wedding dress, passport, and ID cards, had gone missing upon arrival.

Oglesby’s fiancé, Cody Aelum, and their young daughter welcomed her at the airport. Upon reaching home, the couple realised the devastating loss. Oglesby expressed her deep disappointment, stating the sentimental value attached to the stolen items, especially her cherished wedding dress, which she had planned to share a beautiful moment with her loved ones.

The story took a turn when an AirTag in Oglesby’s luggage led her to a parking garage for airport employees initially and later to a residence in Kenner, Louisiana. Subsequently, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO) made an arrest in connection to the theft. The suspect, Jesus Orellana Castillo, a 59-year-old contract employee at the airport, was charged with theft, as confirmed by JPSO public information officer Brandon Veal.
Expressing her dismay, Oglesby disclosed that the stolen dress and other belongings were eventually discarded, leaving her with a feeling of profound loss. Her fiancé, Aelum, echoed her sentiments, labelling the incident as unfortunate and incomprehensible.
In response to the distressing event, an airport representative emphasized the commitment to safety and security for all passengers, employees, and facilities at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Immediate action was taken upon learning about the incident, reviewing camera footage to identify the suspect and assist the JPSO in their investigation.
As a silver lining amidst the despair, Town & Country Bridal in New Orleans stepped up to offer Oglesby a new wedding dress as a gesture of goodwill. With the support of the bridal shop, Oglesby visited to explore potential selections for her replacement gown, signifying a glimmer of hope after the unfortunate theft.
Such incidents serve as a reminder of the emotional impact and upheaval caused by theft, particularly when it involves items of significant sentimental value. However, the swift response from authorities and the generous offer from Town & Country Bridal showcase the power of community support and compassion in times of distress. Let us hope that Oglesby finds solace in the midst of this challenging ordeal and can create new memories with her replacement wedding dress.
