Ritz crackers have been recalled in eight states due to a potential allergen risk. Mondelēz Global LLC voluntarily recalled 70 cases of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches because they may have been mislabeled as containing cheese instead of peanut butter. This mislabeling poses a serious risk to consumers with peanut allergies who could experience severe or life-threatening allergic reactions.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning indicating that individuals with peanut allergies may suffer from symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, vomiting, facial swelling, hives, and difficulty breathing, among others. These symptoms could lead to fatal consequences if not promptly addressed. Consumers are advised to dispose of the affected products immediately to avoid any potential harm.
The recall notice from Mondelēz Global LLC highlights that the outer cartons of the affected crackers were correctly labeled with an allergen advisory statement indicating the presence of peanuts. However, the individually wrapped packs inside were inaccurately labeled as containing cheese filling. This discrepancy could pose a significant health risk to those with allergies or sensitivities to peanuts or other tree nuts.
Affected products include six-pack containers with the UPC 44000 07584 2 and Best-by dates of Jan. 8, 2026, and Jan. 15, 2026. These containers were distributed to Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Missouri, New York, and New Jersey. Despite the recall, there have been no reports of injuries or illnesses related to the consumption of the mislabeled Ritz crackers at the time of publication.
Mondelēz Global LLC initiated the recall in coordination with the FDA as a precautionary measure. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume the recalled products if they have a peanut allergy. Instead, they should promptly discard them and can contact the company at 1-844-366-1171 for further information or assistance.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate food labeling and the potential risks posed by mislabeled products, particularly to individuals with severe allergies. The swift action taken by Mondelēz Global LLC and the FDA demonstrates a commitment to consumer safety and underscores the need for vigilance in ensuring the integrity of food labeling practices.
In light of this recall, consumers are urged to check their pantries for any recalled Ritz crackers and to follow the disposal instructions provided. By being proactive and attentive to such recalls, individuals can help safeguard their health and well-being, particularly if they have food sensitivities or allergies that could be triggered by mislabeled products.
