Mother Grieves Loss of 8-Year-Old Daughter in Tragic Birthday Party Shooting

A mother is devastated after the loss of her 8-year-old daughter, who was tragically killed in a mass shooting during a birthday party in Stockton, California. The incident, which occurred on November 29th, claimed the lives of three children, including two 8-year-olds and a 14-year-old, as well as an adult man aged 21.
The young victim of the shooting has been identified as Journey Rose Reotutar Guerrero. Her mother, Jacqueline Reotutar, shared the heartbreaking news of her daughter’s passing in a GoFundMe post. Journey was described as a “kind and helpful” third-grader who had a love for art, crafting, baking, and gymnastics. She was known to be a curious and gentle soul who touched the hearts of many.
According to Journey’s family, she was an inspiration to them, always pushing them to do their best. The aspiring gymnast had a passion for trivia and math, dreaming of one day becoming a cheerleader like her sister and eventually pursuing a career in medicine to help others.
Jacqueline Reotutar, who is also a teacher in the Stockton Unified School District, expressed the family’s sorrow over the untimely loss of Journey, who had siblings aged 10, 15, and 18. The family had hoped to witness Journey’s growth into adulthood and see her fulfil her dreams.
The tragic shooting took place at a local banquet hall where around 100 people had gathered to celebrate a 2-year-old girl’s birthday. As partygoers were preparing to cut the birthday cake, gunfire erupted, leading to the deaths of four individuals, including the young children and the adult male victim.
Authorities have yet to make any arrests in connection with the shooting, with indications suggesting that multiple suspects may have been involved. Local law enforcement, alongside federal agencies like the ATF and FBI, are actively investigating the case to bring those responsible to justice.
Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi expressed her disbelief and sorrow over the tragic incident, highlighting the trauma endured by the families and the community. She emphasised the importance of unity and solidarity in the face of such senseless violence, urging the community to come together to support one another.
