A middle school teacher in Illinois is facing serious charges after being accused of sexually assaulting an underage former student, following concerns raised by vigilant neighbours who noticed the young male going in and out of her house. Jessica Bergmann, a 34-year-old teacher at Washington Middle School in Aurora, Illinois, has been charged with three felonies, including criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to authorities in DuPage County, suspicions were raised when neighbours reported seeing the underage boy visiting Bergmann’s home on multiple occasions. It is alleged that Bergmann, who taught at the boy’s middle school, initiated a sexual relationship with him when he was a high school sophomore. The investigation was triggered by reports of potentially inappropriate behaviour between the teacher and the student.
The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office revealed that Bergmann and the former student began communicating through text messages and phone calls after the student graduated. The relationship is said to have turned sexual at some point, leading to the victim frequently visiting Bergmann’s home, where sexual intercourse allegedly took place. Neighbours, becoming increasingly alarmed by the boy’s presence at the teacher’s residence, contacted the authorities.
Following the investigation, Bergmann was taken into custody and subsequently released after an initial court appearance. As part of her release conditions, she has been ordered not to have any contact with individuals under the age of 18. The case is scheduled to return to court on December 1st, where Bergmann will face the charges brought against her.
In a statement, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin expressed deep concern over the breach of trust and authority demonstrated by Bergmann.
