Teen in Miami Successfully Combats Man Who Allegedly Attempted to Abduct Her

A brave teenager in Miami fought off a man who allegedly tried to kidnap her in a harrowing incident. The 16-year-old girl, identified as Valerie, recounted the terrifying ordeal that took place on Thursday, February 20, in her neighbourhood in South Miami. Brian Gamboa, a 32-year-old man from New York residing in South Miami, reportedly tried to attack and abduct Valerie as she was walking, according to CBS News Miami.
The teenager described the moment when Gamboa, who appeared intoxicated, approached her aggressively, attempting to drag her into his car. Valerie shared with WSVN, “He stopped and came out of the car, and he was drunk. Really wobbly. He just screamed, ‘Shush,’ and he went for my arm.” Despite the overwhelming situation, Valerie didn’t back down. She revealed to CBS News Miami how she fought back by throwing her phone at him, kicking, screaming, and punching Gamboa in self-defence.
As the altercation intensified, Gamboa allegedly pushed Valerie to the ground, but she managed to kick him and escape, eventually seeking help from a neighbour. Gamboa fled the scene but was later apprehended by Miami-Dade Sheriff’s officers after being involved in a hit-and-run crash. Valerie positively identified Gamboa as her attacker, leading to his arrest, as reported by WSVN.
Despite sustaining a minor knee injury during the incident, Valerie considers herself fortunate to have escaped a potentially worse outcome. She expressed her resilience, stating, “I got pretty lucky, like, it could have been way worse for me. I didn’t want to have his impact on my life like that, so I was just fighting.” Valerie hopes for a long jail sentence for Gamboa to ensure the safety of others and stresses the importance of fighting back and seeking help in dangerous situations.
Gamboa faces charges of attempted kidnapping and battery of a child and is currently under house arrest, according to records viewed by PEOPLE. Although he posted bail, he will remain in custody until fitted with an ankle monitor. Valerie, on the other hand, remains determined to overcome the trauma of the attack and move forward. She underlines the necessity of standing up against perpetrators and calling for assistance when faced with threats.
