A heartwarming rescue operation unfolded in California as an animal shelter stepped in to save nearly 100 mice and hamsters from a major hoarding case. The Pasadena Humane, located in Arcadia, California, received a distress call from a overwhelmed pet owner seeking help with a large number of small animals in their residence. The rescued mice and hamsters were promptly attended to by veterinary professionals and accommodated in suitable living spaces upon their arrival at the shelter. Fortunately, most of the tiny creatures were deemed healthy, except for one hamster with a minor leg injury, expected to make a full recovery soon. The shelter’s staff highlighted the importance of segregating male and female animals to prevent unchecked breeding, which could lead to exponential growth in population within a short span of time.
In a bid to find loving forever homes for these rescued rodents, Pasadena Humane is actively seeking adopters. The shelter has temporarily repurposed a communal cat room to house these small animals and is keen on connecting them with caring individuals or families. Adoption fees are set at $10 for mice and $15 for hamsters, with a condition of a maximum of four animals of the same sex per household. Additionally, stringent measures are in place to ensure the accurate identification of each animal’s gender, to avert similar hoarding incidents in the future.
