Meghan Markle’s Family Connection to Dodgers Player Resurfaces Following Surprise World Series Appearance

Meghan Markle’s Family Ties to Dodgers Player Resurface During World Series Appearance

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently made a surprise appearance at the World Series in Los Angeles, showing their support for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The couple, adorned in Dodgers hats, cheered on the home team during the game. Meghan even captured their “date night” at the ballpark on Oct. 28, sharing glimpses on her Instagram Stories. Despite the Dodgers’ loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, the pair enjoyed some stadium food, with Meghan seen enjoying a famous “Dodger Dog.”

While Meghan has roots in both Los Angeles and Toronto, where she lived during her time filming Suits, she also has a surprising family connection to one of the Dodgers’ players. Meghan is distantly related to All-Star shortstop Mookie Betts, which added an extra layer of excitement to their World Series outing. She even spotlighted Mookie’s Golden Glove award during their behind-the-scenes tour of Dodger Stadium, showcasing their family ties.

The revelation of Meghan’s connection to Mookie Betts was uncovered by amateur genealogist Jim McNiff and shared by the Boston Globe in 2018, around the time of Meghan’s royal wedding to Prince Harry and Mookie’s time playing for the Red Sox. It was discovered that Meghan and Mookie share distant familial connections through intermarriages within the Betts family, dating back generations to enslaved people owned by Elisha Betts, a tobacco plantation owner from Virginia.

Although Meghan did not initially comment on the connection publicly, she has previously acknowledged her mother’s heritage as being descended from enslaved people. Mookie, upon learning about their family link, expressed surprise and interest, stating that their families originated from Virginia before settling in Alabama. The following year, Meghan and Mookie had the chance to meet during a Red Sox overseas series against the New York Yankees in London, where they shared a warm embrace as distant cousins.

Mookie Betts has established himself as a rising star in baseball, with an impressive track record that includes multiple All-Star appearances and World Series victories. His prowess on the field has earned him accolades such as MVP, Silver Slugger, and Gold Glove awards, solidifying his status as one of the sport’s greats. Mookie, like Meghan, is also a devoted parent, sharing two children with his wife Brianna Hammonds.

As Meghan and Harry continue to navigate their own parenthood journey with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, the couple’s outing at the World Series not only showcased their support for the Dodgers but also highlighted Meghan’s unique family connection to the world of sports. Their shared experience at the game serves as a reminder of the intertwining paths of history and heritage, even in the realm of entertainment and athletics.
