The family of an eight-year-old girl, Saida Mashrah, who had her throat slashed while playing at a playground, has decided to take legal action against the accused perpetrator. The incident took place in 2024 when Saida was with her grandmother, and she was allegedly attacked by a 74-year-old man named Gary Lansky.

Gary Lansky is facing serious charges for the alleged assault on Saida. The lawsuit was officially filed by Saida’s family against Lansky on October 22, as reported by CBS Detroit, the Detroit Free-Press, and The Detroit News. According to the civil complaint filed, Lansky approached Saida, who was only seven years old at the time, at a playground in Dearborn, Michigan. He reportedly grabbed her neck and slashed it with a knife, causing severe bleeding. The complaint also states that Lansky attempted to stab the girl in the stomach, but she managed to fight him off and escape.
The legal action against Lansky includes accusations of assault with the intention to murder and felonious assault. Lansky has pleaded not guilty to these charges, and his trial is scheduled for December. Despite physically recovering from the traumatic incident in October 2024, Saida reportedly still bears emotional scars, as shared with CBS Detroit. Reflecting on the ordeal, Saida expressed her fear and reluctance to return to the park where the attack occurred, stating, “I used to go to the park every day with my grandma, until he did this, and now I don’t want to go back.”
Following the attack, Saida required 20 stitches as a result of her injuries. She shared her ongoing fears, mentioning dreams where the assailant threatens to return, causing her distress. The emotional toll of the incident has led to Saida experiencing anxiety and fear, as she revealed, “I feel like in my dreams the guy would say I’m coming back for you, and that makes me scared, and that’s why I cry in the middle of the night.”
This harrowing incident has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on Saida and her family. It has stirred concern and shock within the community, highlighting the importance of seeking justice for victims of such heinous acts. The legal pursuit against the alleged perpetrator signifies a step towards accountability and ensuring that such acts of violence do not go unpunished.
The resilience shown by Saida in the face of such trauma is commendable, and her family’s decision to seek justice through legal channels is a testament to their determination to hold the responsible party accountable for their actions. The lawsuit serves as a reminder of the significance of standing up against acts of violence and advocating for the safety and well-being of all individuals, especially the most vulnerable members of society.
As the legal proceedings continue, the community stands in solidarity with Saida and her family, offering support and empathy during this challenging time. The pursuit of justice in this case underscores the importance of safeguarding public spaces and ensuring the protection of children and families from harm. May this legal action bring a sense of closure and justice to Saida and her loved ones as they navigate the aftermath of this tragic event.
