Authorities in Philadelphia have recently unveiled new charges against a suspect in connection with the disappearance and tragic death of Kada Scott. Scott, a 23-year-old woman, vanished on the evening of October 4 after leaving her place of work at an assisted living facility. Just a few days later on October 15, 21-year-old Keon King was apprehended on allegations of kidnapping related to Scott’s disappearance. Tragically, on October 18, Scott’s remains were found in a wooded area behind an abandoned school, Philadelphia law enforcement officials confirmed to PEOPLE.
According to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announcement on October 20, King now faces additional charges linked to Scott’s disappearance. The new charges include arson, causing catastrophe, conspiracy, unauthorized use of an automobile, tampering with evidence, and recklessly endangering another person. Notably, as of October 20, King has not been charged in connection with Scott’s death.

Throughout the investigation into Scott’s case, reports revealed that she had been receiving harassing phone calls in the days leading up to her disappearance. While it remains uncertain if King is connected to the alleged calls, he is currently staring at an arson charge amongst others, in connection with the incineration of a vehicle that investigators were alerted about last week. During a press conference on Monday, Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski disclosed that video evidence retrieved over the weekend suggests the burnt vehicle was used by King in the transport of Ms. Scott.
Following King’s arrest last week, additional alleged victims of King emerged, coming forward to share their encounters with him. Notably, King was previously facing charges of kidnapping and strangulation from an earlier incident this year, which were initially dropped due to his supposed victim failing to attend court. However, prosecutors have announced they will be reinstating these charges.
Scott’s family, understandably grieving during this challenging time, has requested privacy. They had set up a GoFundMe page to aid in locating her and spreading awareness about her case. Philadelphia City Council member Anthony Phillips has extended support to Scott’s family and is collecting contributions, including toiletries, self-care items, meal delivery services, and non-perishable foods for her relatives.
It is reported that King has not yet entered a plea, as per online court records, which did not provide details of his legal representation. Authorities continue to investigate the case with the hope of serving justice for Kada Scott and her grieving family. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and vigilance in safeguarding individuals from harm.
