At a wedding, guests typically anticipate dancing, laughter, and celebration, but for one bride in Utah, her special day turned into an unexpected health scare. Grace Theobald Cooper, aged 22, fainted during her reception after a long day of excitement and a lack of essential nourishment.

The incident occurred shortly after Grace and her husband, Austin Cooper, began their wedding reception in Bountiful, Utah. As the festivities kicked off, Grace suddenly found herself overwhelmed by nausea, prompting her to step away for a moment of respite. “I rushed over toward some bushes to try and get out of the way,” she recounted. Recognising that she had not consumed any food or water throughout the day, she informed a bridesmaid that she needed to lie down. Moments later, she lost consciousness.

Though Grace was only unconscious for a brief period, her mother, who arrived on the scene, later described the experience as feeling much longer. A bridesmaid who followed Grace promptly called for assistance upon witnessing her collapse. The immediate response from friends and family was swift, with Grace’s mother, husband, and other bridesmaids rushing to her side. A thoughtful wedding guest even brought a pillow and a damp towel to help alleviate her discomfort.

Reflecting on the support she received, Grace expressed gratitude for the people around her. “I had so many wonderful people rush to help me,” she said. Her mother took control of the situation, delegating tasks to ensure Grace was attended to. “One of my most vivid memories is of my mum chewing ice in her own mouth first and then putting it in mine so I wouldn’t choke,” she explained. After regaining consciousness, Grace was initially concerned about her appearance, worrying whether the damp towel would ruin her carefully applied makeup.
Grace believes her fainting episode resulted from the combination of hot weather and the lack of food and hydration. “Between the excitement and nerves, I essentially ran on an empty stomach all day, and I was completely dehydrated since I hadn’t had any water yet. Add in the Utah heat and all the built-in stress of a wedding day, and my body just hit its limit,” she explained.
Despite not feeling entirely well and experiencing a bit of embarrassment, Grace was able to return to her wedding celebrations after recovering. “Our DJ did an amazing job keeping the crowd distracted and the energy up while it was all happening,” she remarked.
Several months later, Grace decided to share her experience on TikTok, participating in a trend that involves recounting “things that went wrong at our wedding.” The video she posted quickly gained traction, amassing nearly six million views and over 800,000 likes in a short span of time.
Initially, Grace felt embarrassed about her fainting spell, as she had never heard of another bride passing out on her wedding day. However, after her video went viral, the reaction from viewers shifted her perspective. “So many people shared their own wedding fainting stories, which made me realise I wasn’t alone at all,” she stated.
Through her experience, Grace has highlighted a vital reminder for those planning to tie the knot: the importance of self-care amidst the chaos of a wedding day. “Weddings are so high-stress, and sometimes your body just reacts to that pressure. It is such an important reminder for anyone getting married to actually eat and stay hydrated!” she emphasised.
Grace’s story serves as a cautionary tale for future brides, encouraging them to prioritise their health amidst the excitement. Her candidness not only opens the door for conversation about the often-overlooked pressures of wedding planning but also underscores the need for self-care in moments of significant stress.
