Disney is venturing into the world of technology with an innovative project that aims to enhance the visitor experience at its theme parks. The entertainment giant recently announced its collaboration with Field AI, which will involve the testing of autonomous robots inspired by characters from the beloved animated film series, ‘Cars’. This initiative is designed to assist guests in locating parking spaces more efficiently.

The announcement was made during Disney’s Accelerator Demo Day, which took place on 4 November 2026, and featured the presentations of five promising technology companies—Promise, OpenArt, Field AI, Physical Intelligence, and Simile. The event showcased Disney’s ongoing commitment to advancing the user experience through cutting-edge technologies.
“It’s exciting to be collaborating with Field AI on this project that involves autonomous robots guiding cars to parking spots,” said Gary Daniels, Senior Vice President of Products and Experiences at Disney Experiences Technology & Digital. The demonstration included a visual presentation that depicted animated characters from ‘Cars’ directing vehicles in a parking lot, providing a glimpse into what the future could hold for visitors.

Daniels added, “Imagine if characters from ‘Cars’ or robots from ‘Wall-E’ were there to assist you when you arrive at the park.” This imaginative approach highlights Disney’s dedication to blending its storytelling capabilities with technological innovation, creating a unique interaction between visitors and their favourite film characters.
The primary focus of this partnership with Field AI revolves around safety and building effective human-robot interactions. A company spokesperson explained their vision by stating, “We’re building a future where humans lead and robots follow, expanding the potential of every individual as we enter this new era of robotics.” Such initiatives indicate a shift towards integrating technology in ways that complement the human experience rather than replacing it.
Autonomous robots are not entirely new to Disney parks; the company has previously introduced free-roaming characters like Olaf from ‘Frozen’ at Disneyland Paris, as well as droids from the ‘Star Wars’ franchise in Galaxy’s Edge located in Disney Studios Orlando. These technologies have laid a strong foundation for introducing more complex automated systems within the park environments.
The Disney Accelerator programme has a history of supporting innovative technology start-ups, and this year’s event also welcomed back members from the previous cohort, allowing them to display their progress and achievements following a year of collaboration. Bonnie Rosen, General Manager of the Disney Accelerator, expressed her enthusiasm for the participants, stating that they are tackling intricate technical challenges with remarkable optimism.
As the programme continues to develop, it aims to push the boundaries of what is possible in Disney experiences. “In times of significant change, we strive to support Disney’s creative innovators and the founders as they share ideas and breakthroughs in storytelling,” Rosen noted, signalling a commitment to creativity and innovation in the face of evolving visitor needs.
The blend of character-driven technology and practical applications like parking guidance is a testament to Disney’s strategic approach, ensuring that the iconic stories resonate within the guests’ day-to-day experiences at the parks. By integrating beloved characters into functional roles, Disney is once again redefining the theme park experience.
As further developments unfold, it will be fascinating to see how this initiative progresses and what it ultimately contributes to the overall guest experience at Disney theme parks. With the ongoing commitment to marrying creativity with technology, Disney continues to hold a unique position at the intersection of entertainment and innovation.
