NFL free agent Joe Mixon took to social media to express his sorrow following a tragic plane crash in Palm Beach, Florida, which occurred on November 1. In a heartfelt message posted on X, previously known as Twitter, the 30-year-old running back shared his devastation over the incident. “Absolutely devastated by yesterday’s tragic plane crash in Florida and the loss of all nine lives,” he wrote. “I flew on that exact aircraft last month with those same two pilots. They were incredible professionals and genuinely wonderful people.”

The ill-fated Learjet 60 was en route to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas when it crashed on the afternoon of November 1 in Palm Beach County. The flight’s crew included Captain Jeff Gregory and co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, who at just 20 years old, was remembered for her promising career ahead of her. Filgueiras, originally from Palm Beach, had received her pilot’s licence at the remarkably young age of 17.
Mixon reflected on the young pilot’s untimely demise in his social media post, expressing his heartbreak upon learning about Filgueiras’ story. “Hearing the young woman’s story and learning about the bright future she had ahead of her makes it even more heartbreaking that her life was cut so short,” he added, emphasising the tragic loss.
The aircraft had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas earlier that morning. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the jet’s intended destination was the popular Bahamian island, North Eleuthera. Unfortunately, it never made it.
Among the passengers aboard was Adam Robinson, a tech entrepreneur who had been travelling with his wife, ceramicist and business owner Helen Sharp, and their two children, Emma and Charlie. The family, well-connected within their community, was joined by family friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr, as well as the Robinsons’ nanny, Anita Maria Cetina. Family members released a heartfelt joint statement, expressing their love for the deceased and speaking to the tragic nature of the loss.
As news of the crash broke, it prompted Mixon to reflect on the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing loved ones. He stated, “My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to the grieving families and loved ones of everyone on board. A tragic reminder of how fragile life is. Love on your loved ones while you can, because you never know what tomorrow may bring.”
Within the professional sports community, the tragedy has stirred a wave of condolences and sympathy for the victims and their families. Mixon’s emotional post highlights not only his connection to the event but also the broader concern shared among many regarding the safety and unpredictability of life.
Mixon’s career has been marked by highs and lows, including his release from the Houston Texans earlier in the year after missing the 2025 season due to a foot injury. Yet, in light of this tragedy, he emphasised that such events put personal struggles into perspective, shifting the focus toward the value of human connection and the importance of family.
As investigations into the cause of the crash begin, those affected continue to remember the lives lost that day. Tributes have poured in for both the crew and the passengers, signalling the impact of this unfortunate incident across various communities, including the realms of sports and aviation.
In a world often engrossed in sporting achievements and competition, such tragedies serve as a poignant reminder of life’s unpredictable nature. As the victims’ families navigate through their grief, the outpouring of support underscores a collective desire to honour those who were lost and to acknowledge the ties that bind us all.
