Authorities have charged 40-year-old Dairus Thompson II and his son, 17-year-old Dairus E. Thompson III, in connection to Wilson Jr.’s death. It has been reported that the father and son mistook Wilson for a 27-year-old man with whom the elder Thompson had been feuding. This grave error allegedly led to the shooting that took Wilson’s life, leaving family, friends and the community in mourning.

Investigators revealed that it was the younger Thompson who discharged multiple rounds at Wilson Jr. while he was in the car. According to court documents, the elder Thompson is believed to have facilitated the shooting by driving his son to the scene and coordinating the attack. Subsequently, he has also been accused of assisting his son in disposing of the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
Both Thompsons are currently in custody, and the legal repercussions they face are severe. Dairus Thompson II has been charged with aiding murder and inducing or causing murder. In contrast, his son has been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and obstruction of justice. If convicted, the younger Thompson could find himself facing a maximum of 65 years in prison.
Wilson Jr.’s girlfriend, who was present during the shooting, fortunately emerged unharmed. However, the violent incident led to the immediate passing of the star athlete, who was declared dead at the scene. His untimely death not only robbed him of a bright future but also left an indelible mark on a community that had rallied around him.
In the wake of this tragedy, Wilson Jr. was posthumously remembered for his considerable talent on the football field. He had already committed to play at West Virginia University, looking ahead to what many believed would be a successful collegiate career. West Virginia Football’s head coach Rich Rodriguez expressed profound sorrow upon hearing the news, referring to the loss of Wilson Jr. as “tragic.”
Extended memorials in honour of Wilson Jr. have taken place, with his teammates proudly displaying his jersey during games. His high school has also organised memorial events as a tribute to his life and legacy. Those who knew him described him as a bright star; his mother, Tywanna Price, poignantly stated, “When he walked, his light shined.” The sentiment echoes the sentiments of those mourning this senseless loss.
Wilson’s stepfather added to the family’s grief by asserting that Christopher was an innocent victim in this devastating situation. “He didn’t do anything wrong. He wasn’t at the wrong place at the wrong time. He was a kid,” he emphasised, reflecting the pain and outrage felt by those who loved Wilson Jr.
As this heartbreaking case unfolds and the community continues to grapple with the loss of a remarkable young athlete, questions linger regarding the circumstances that led to this tragedy and how to prevent such incidents in the future. With the legal proceedings against the Thompsons underway, there remains a deep sense of injustice surrounding Christopher Wilson Jr.’s passing, a stark reminder of the impact of violence on families and communities alike.
