Xochitl Gomez has expressed considerable excitement about her return to the CBS drama series “Boston Blue”. The young actress, who plays the character Penny, shared her thoughts with PEOPLE at the recent Día de Muertos Gala, held on 27 October 2026. Gomez’s enthusiasm comes as the ongoing second season of the show features significant developments, particularly the long-awaited kiss shared between her character and her on-screen partner, Sean Reagan, portrayed by Mika Amonsen.

In the latest episode, which aired on 23 October, viewers witnessed the romantic culmination of Penny and Sean’s relationship during a family dinner that included both the Silver and Reagan families. The scene initiated with Penny picking Sean up from church, where they shared a heartfelt conversation regarding his profession in law enforcement. This emotional exchange was followed by their first kiss, a moment many fans had anticipated eagerly.

Reflecting on her time working on “Boston Blue,” Gomez stated, “I feel like people were awaiting this moment. The fans have been very vocal about how long they’ve wanted to see this happen.” The actress noted the excitement among the audience, describing reactions with a light-hearted humour, “The amount of people were like, ‘Finally, God dang.’ I’m like, ‘Guys, chill.’”
Despite the anticipation surrounding the scene, Gomez admitted there was minimal pressure on her when it came to the kiss. She described her co-star, Amonsen, as being “a little more nervous than I was,” adding, “I’m like, ‘Guys, just chill. Be for real.’” Their camaraderie behind the scenes extends beyond the show, with Gomez mentioning that she received a lovely message from Amonsen just that morning.
The budding relationship between Penny and Sean has been built steadily since the character’s introduction in the first season, which began in November 2025. Initially, the narrative struggled as Sean grappled with Penny’s past legal troubles, but their connection ultimately developed into a supportive partnership, contributing to the show’s emotional depth.
In an earlier remarks about the series, Donnie Wahlberg—who plays Sean’s father, Danny—also shared his hopes regarding a possible reunion with his former “Blue Bloods” co-star, Tom Selleck. Wahlberg expressed great respect for Selleck’s legacy, underscoring the need for a thoughtful and elegant episode should a reunion occur. “It has to be something really special,” he emphasised, referring to the meticulous care Selleck applies to his role and the history of the shows.
Outside of “Boston Blue,” Gomez has been busy with a range of projects, including her performance in the horror-thriller “Hive,” released in April, and lending her voice to the character Gabby in the animated adaptation of “The Cat in the Hat.” Her versatility as an actress continues to shine through as she balances these diverse roles.
“Boston Blue” is currently airing new episodes on CBS every Friday at 10 p.m. ET, with additional streaming options available on Paramount+. As the series progresses, fans can expect more compelling storylines and character developments, particularly with the evolving relationship between Penny and Sean. With Gomez’s enthusiasm and dedication evident, “Boston Blue” appears poised to deliver captivating entertainment in its second season.
