The latest Halloween episode of the ABC talk show “The View,” aired on 30th October, kicked off with an entertaining spoof of the upcoming horror film “Obsession,” set to be released in 2026. Co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines featured prominently in a comedic sketch that showcased a cleverly exaggerated friendship dynamic, albeit fraught with a comedic twist. The episode was capped off by Joy Behar, who delivered an unforgettable punchline that turned the entire parody on its head.

The sketch opened with a seemingly innocent premise, as shopping expert Greta Monahan introduced Haines to a quirky novelty item called the “One Wish Willow.” This magical toy purportedly grants wishes when broken in two. Hostin, however, quickly expressed her reservations about the toy, insisting it should not be trifled with, especially given its occult associations. Nevertheless, Haines’ curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to give the toy a try, wishing that Hostin would understand her better.

Almost instantaneously, Hostin appeared beside Haines, donning an unsettlingly enthusiastic expression. “You look so pretty today,” she exclaimed, enveloping Haines in a rather suffocating embrace. This scene appeared to pay homage to the film’s themes of dangerous obsession, mirroring the creepy dynamics of the original narrative. Hostin’s portrayal of her character was a spot-on imitation of a distressed friend taking love to an unhealthy extreme, showing her comedic prowess.

As the sketch unfolded, the challenges of Haines’ wish became increasingly apparent. The light-hearted chaos skyrocketed when colleague Alyssa Farah Griffin entered their shared space to invite Haines out for lunch. Hostin, ever the overprotective friend, effectively pushed Griffin away, proclaiming that Haines shouldn’t be spending time with anyone else. “Now we can just spend all of our time together, Sara,” Hostin insisted, showcasing a rather alarming form of attachment.
Haines, visibly perturbed, sought help from Ana Navarro, who remained dismissively unfazed by the troubles. Navarro, in her characteristic manner, quipped about her own wishes, suggesting that had her dreams come true, she would be frolicking on a yacht in Greece instead of dealing with chaotic friend dynamics. The combination of levity and horror only deepened as the two of them stumbled upon a customer service hotline, where a robotic voice ominously prompted them to press a number if their coworker had transformed into a “homicidal stalker.”
To Haines’ dismay, Hostin quickly reappeared, this time bearing flowers for her “best friend.” The situation escalated further when Haines tried to excuse herself to consult Behar. Hostin, channelling classic horror tropes, menacingly blocked her path while shouting, “Sara, you wanted this!” A growing sense of dread permeated the skit as Haines became increasingly convinced that Hostin had lost her grip on reality, leading her to theorise that Hostin was responsible for the mysterious incapacitation of their other colleague, Alyssa.
In classic comedic fashion, Behar displayed an iconic lack of concern as she remained preoccupied with her crossword puzzle amid the unfolding chaos. When Haines pleaded for assistance, Behar nonchalantly offered the sketch’s most memorable line: “I wish this dumb bit would just end already,” before snapping the One Wish Willow in half and tossing it aside. With that singular action, the horror-comedy was effectively concluded, much to the amusement of the audience.
In recent years, “The View” has opted for simpler Halloween celebrations, especially during significant election periods, as seen in 2024 when costumes were abandoned in favour of serious political discussions. Nevertheless, the show maintains its tradition of Halloween fun, combining lighthearted sketches with meaningful discourse. Teta, a key figure of the show, previously noted the importance of these festive episodes for both the audience and the production team, highlighting their creative efforts in putting these segments together.
In addition to the Halloween sketches, “The View” continues its popular segment where co-hosts suggest costume ideas inspired by trending viral moments. This year’s suggestions cover a broad range, including playful nods to public figures and significant cultural moments, showcasing the show’s ability to blend humour with topical relevance.
For viewers looking to engage in the spirit of the spooky season, “The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC, serving as a platform where entertainment and meaningful conversation coexist.
