Marc Walter Fleming was discovered deceased on 27 September, during the afternoon at a residential unit in the coastal area of Sardinal, Guanacaste. Following an investigation, the Liberia Regional Office of the Judicial Investigation Department released a statement regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.

The authorities have since shared surveillance footage on social media, which shows a woman in a bikini near the scene of the crime, accompanied by another woman dressed in pink. They believe that the individual in the bikini may have been involved in Fleming’s death and have called on the public for assistance in identifying her.
Investigators noted that Fleming had reportedly entered his condominium with the woman, who subsequently left the premises. Upon the discovery of his body, officials observed head injuries that appeared to have been caused by a blunt object, raising concerns about the nature of his demise.
According to reports, the woman, identified only by the surname ‘Ortiz’, was taken into custody on Tuesday. Vladimir Muñoz, Deputy Director of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ), stated that Ortiz had met Fleming online and had been picked up by him in his vehicle before the incident occurred. It is alleged that an argument broke out at the condominium, leading to a violent confrontation during which Ortiz struck Fleming, resulting in his death.
Additionally, reports indicate that Ortiz is believed to have stolen Fleming’s bank cards following the incident. The ongoing investigation has led to the arrest of the other woman seen in the surveillance footage, dressed in pink, although further details regarding her involvement have yet to be clarified.
The circumstances surrounding this case have sparked significant interest, as Costa Rica remains a popular destination for American tourists. Both local and international media outlets have been closely following developments as authorities work to piece together the events leading to Fleming’s tragic demise.
As investigations continue, Costa Rican authorities have urged anyone with additional information to come forward. The case has raised questions regarding the safety of travellers in the region and how to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The OIJ has yet to respond to a request for further information as the investigation unfolds. Further updates are expected as local officials continue to gather evidence and clarify the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
