Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has officially launched her new haircare brand, Mes, which debuted on 27 October. The brand aims to tap into the growing popularity of personal care and wellness products, offering a trio of items designed for hair maintenance: a repair mask, a restyling serum, and a volumising mist.

In a recent interview with *The Cut*, Lawrence reflected on her dedication to product testing during the development of the brand. She recalled a rather amusing incident while trialling one of Mes’s key offerings, an unscented hair mask, that left her locks with an unusual odour reminiscent of fish. The actress, 36, shared a humorous exchange with her husband, Cooke Maroney, who jokingly suggested she might need to “get a hotel room” if she didn’t wash her hair after several days.

Lawrence, who married art gallery director Maroney in 2019, has been open about her experiences as a new mother. The couple welcomed their first child, son Cy, in February 2022, and reports confirmed the arrival of their second son earlier this year. The actress’s personal life has undoubtedly influenced her career trajectory and aspirations, including this latest venture into the beauty industry.
In her interview, Lawrence explained her motivation for branching out into haircare. She expressed a connection between her creative work and the process of product development, stating, “There is an undeniable energetic thing that happens when you’re creating things, whether it’s a movie or a product. I got that same electric buzz I get from building a character.” It seems this excitement has propelled her to invest in her own brand.
Despite this enthusiasm, she admitted to feeling a degree of uncertainty when discussing Mes. “I have to pretend I’ve made the greatest thing on earth,” she remarked, indicating that she views this mindset as a necessary form of “forced manifestation” to combat her fears about the venture.
Apart from her professional endeavours, Lawrence shared her vision of motherhood, expressing a desire to be a “sexy mum.” She articulated her hope to maintain an air of composure and style even during hectic mornings when she might feel less than put together. “At drop-off, I want to look like a woman that has her s–t together,” she said candidly.
Lawrence’s reflections on parenthood have been poignant and transformative. During a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival in May, she elaborated on how having children reshaped her life and career. “Having children changes everything. It changes your whole life. It’s brutal and incredible,” she noted. The demands of parenthood have influenced her work decisions significantly, as she now considers how her children affect her availability for projects.
As she steps into this new chapter with Mes, Lawrence appears determined to navigate her dual roles as a parent and entrepreneur. Her foray into the beauty industry not only demonstrates her versatility but also signifies a passionate commitment to creating products that resonate with her personal journey and experiences.
The future of Mes will likely depend on how well these products are received in a competitive market, but Lawrence’s blend of sincerity and humour in discussing both her brand and motherhood offers a refreshing glimpse into her life beyond the silver screen. Fans and consumers alike will be keen to see how this venture unfolds.
