The Kansas City Chiefs faced a challenging ordeal on Sunday, 25th October, as they suffered a significant setback against the Seattle Seahawks, ending the game with a score of 20-3. For Patrick Mahomes, the three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback, it marked one of the least impressive nights of his career. Frustration was evident as he struggled to find his rhythm on the field, ultimately concluding an evening that showcased the defensive prowess of the Seahawks.

Mahomes finished the match with a passing record of 19 completions out of 33 attempts, amassing a total of 165 yards, but he also threw an interception. Compounding the difficulties, the Chiefs’ running back Kenneth Walker Jr. found little support, with the Seahawks’ defence effectively neutralising his potential impact.
The absence of key wide receivers, Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton, severely limited Mahomes’ options. In a worrying statistic for the Chiefs, they failed to penetrate the red zone, marking the first time in Mahomes’ starting era that the team did not reach beyond the 20-yard line. Veteran tight end Travis Kelce, who had two touchdowns in earlier games this season, managed just four receptions for 44 yards, demonstrating the team’s struggles in generating offensive momentum.

The Chiefs’ overall performance was a dismal one, finishing with just 213 total offensive yards, the lowest in any regular-season match with Mahomes at the helm. This game also underscored their inability to execute explosive plays — defined as runs of ten or more yards or passes of twenty or more yards — a first since head coach Andy Reid took charge of the team.
Reflecting on the match, Mahomes commented, “You got your tail kicked. Didn’t execute offensively, especially around that midfield area.” He lamented the lack of scoring opportunities which prevented the team from remaining competitive. “It’s stuff you’ve got to learn from,” he added, acknowledging the Seattle defence was formidable that night.
Even commentators were taken aback by Mahomes’ demeanour on the field. Cris Collinsworth, a well-known advocate of the quarterback, noted the visibly frustrated look on Mahomes’ face, suggesting it was an unusual sight, one he had never witnessed before from the athlete.
Mahomes later confessed that his mindset, particularly at the start of the game, might have played a role in the defeat. “I thought my feet were kind of getting me into trouble where I could have maybe sat in the pocket and made some of the throws,” he admitted, indicating a need for improvement.
As the Chiefs prepare to regroup following this loss, they will be looking to show a more coordinated performance in their upcoming match against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, 1st November. It will be essential for them to address the issues faced against the Seahawks and to come out stronger in order to reclaim their momentum for the rest of the season.
