In a recent discussion with WWD, the 40-year-old actress opened up about her decision-making process regarding film roles. Seyfried is a mother to Thomas, aged six, and Nina, aged nine, both of whom she shares with her estranged husband, Thomas Sadoski. The couple first met while working together in the off-Broadway play ‘The Way We Get By’ in 2015 and announced their separation in September 2026 after nearly nine years of marriage.

Seyfried highlighted the importance of location when considering new roles, stating, “Projects shooting in New York or New Jersey are paramount for me. Travelling to locations far afield, such as Spain, is not an option right now. With my children at such a formative age and their father’s work commitments, I prefer to ensure we all remain close to each other for a sense of safety and comfort.” She acknowledged that this approach significantly narrows her options when selecting acting roles.
Despite the challenges of balancing parenting with a busy career, Seyfried expressed her gratitude for the support she receives, particularly from her mother, who lives with her family. “Maintaining a full-time career alongside raising two children is certainly demanding,” she reflected in a conversation with PEOPLE. “However, I thrive on this chaos. My family is incredibly supportive, which aids immensely in my daily routine.”
In a previous interview with Vogue, Seyfried elaborated on how she is fortunate to structure her work commitments to maximise her time at home. “I’m at a stage in my career where I can negotiate my schedule,” she explained, adding, “My one non-negotiable is that I must spend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights sleeping beside my kids. This is vital for me.” She underscored how this commitment not only benefits her children but also enriches her own life.
Seyfried tends to keep her family matters private but has occasionally shared her experiences of juggling motherhood and work pressures. Discussing her rare moments of solitude, she acknowledged that her schedule leaves little room for personal time, often finding herself occupied with responsibilities. “The moments I do have for myself are usually when the children are at school,” she explained, mentioning that she uses this time productively.
When talking about her daily routine, Seyfried noted that chores often turn into opportunities for self-care. “While I feed the animals on our farm, I often listen to audiobooks. Although it seems like busy work, I cherish those moments, as they provide a sense of personal fulfilment,” she said.
Seyfried also enjoys small moments of calm in the mornings, often crocheting while her children have breakfast. “I sit and enjoy some quiet time while they watch shows such as ‘Bluey’ before heading off to school,” she stated. She further elaborated on how her commute to the city allows her to indulge in her crafting hobby, which she deems essential for her well-being. “Train rides give me almost two hours of uninterrupted time each way, which I use to crochet or knit,” she shared.
Through her candid discussions, Seyfried portrays the life of a committed working mother who navigates the complexities of Hollywood and family life. Her dedication to her children while pursuing her career reflects a balance that many parents strive for, showcasing the ongoing challenges and joys of maintaining family ties in the midst of a demanding professional life.
