In a candid conversation with musician Benjamin Hav on his YouTube channel, Crown Prince Christian shared insights about his life, particularly how it has been distinct from that of his peers. He recounted moments from his early years, including the challenges of having his parents often occupied with royal duties, stating, “My parents didn’t always have time to take me to school, so someone else had to do it.” This reality, combined with the presence of bodyguards during his childhood, contributed to his awareness of the differences between his life and that of his classmates.

This young royal has a notable educational background, having been the first member of the Danish royal family to attend both nursery and public state school. He completed his primary education in Hellerup and graduated from the Ordrup Gymnasium in 2024. Following his studies, Christian undertook military conscription, culminating in officer training, which he completed in June 2026. He has since taken on the responsibility of serving as a platoon commander with the Royal Life Guards stationed at Høvelte Barracks.

Crown Prince Christian is acutely aware of the responsibilities that lie ahead as he prepares to follow in the footsteps of his father, King Frederik, who has been on the throne since January 2024. Christian expressed his approach to learning about royal duties, saying, “I try to look at what my father did or what my grandmother did,” while emphasising the importance of maintaining his individuality. He aims to cultivate his unique identity rather than merely mimicking his predecessors.
Despite the demands of royal life, he strives for a balance that allows him to engage in ordinary experiences. “I don’t want to feel self-conscious about being myself,” he remarked, highlighting his desire to lead a life that includes socialising with friends and enjoying leisure activities. Music festivals and family dinners on Sundays are among his cherished pastimes, with sushi being a particular favourite.
On his 18th birthday, Crown Prince Christian was honoured with the Order of the Elephant, Denmark’s highest royal accolade. His 21st birthday brought another prestigious recognition; King Frederik awarded him the Grand Cross of the Commander of the Order of Dannebrog. This honour is exclusive to royal family members who are already knights of the Order of the Elephant, reflecting Christian’s elevated status within the Danish monarchy.
In celebration of his birthday, portraits of Crown Prince Christian were released, showcasing him in full military attire, including the prestigious gala uniform of the Royal Life Guards. He proudly displayed his new medal, the Grand Commander’s Cross of the Order of Dannebrog, in these images. The Royal House’s accompanying message elaborated on the significance of the honours he has received, further cementing his role within the royal lineage.
Crown Prince Christian has also chosen to forgo a military salary and will not receive an official royal allowance until he establishes his own household in the future. This decision reflects a sense of responsibility and maturity as he navigates his unique position within the royal family.
The young prince’s first significant public engagement following his birthday was his attendance at a state banquet on October 19. Accompanied by his parents, he welcomed the President of Vietnam, Tô Lâm, and his wife to Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen. This event marked a significant step in Christian’s royal journey, reinforcing his commitment to the duties that come with his title and the expectations of the Danish monarchy.
As Crown Prince Christian continues to grow into his role, his reflections on his childhood and aspirations for the future offer a glimpse into the balance he seeks between royal obligations and the pursuit of a genuine, relatable life. The coming years will undoubtedly shape him as he prepares to one day inherit the throne and carry on the traditions of the Danish royal family.
