Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone have been spotted filming scenes for their much-anticipated sequel, “The Housemaid’s Secret”, in Hoboken, New Jersey. The pair originally captivated audiences in 2025’s surprise hit, “The Housemaid”, which grossed over $400 million worldwide against a modest budget of just £35 million.

The cameras rolled on October 14, 2026, marking the first time that both actors were seen working together for the sequel. Sweeney, known for her role as the complex character Millie, reprises her part alongside Morrone, who returns as Enzo, the groundskeeper and confidant to Millie’s employer, Nina.
“The Housemaid” followed Sweeney’s character, an ex-convict who finds employment as a housemaid in a wealthy household, only to face severe challenges and dark family secrets. This narrative culminates in Andrew’s untimely demise, a twist that shocked viewers and contributed to the film’s remarkable success.
In the recently captured scenes, Sweeney and Morrone appear deeply engaged in conversation, with Morrone leaning in to kiss Sweeney’s forehead, suggesting a bond strong enough to withstand the upheaval of their characters’ tumultuous past. Their costumes reflect a casual yet stylish aesthetic, with Morrone donning a brown leather jacket over a light pink shirt, while Sweeney opts for a denim jacket layered over a black tee.
Production for “The Housemaid’s Secret” commenced this month, only months after its predecessor left a mark at the box office. Shortly after “The Housemaid” premiered, Lionsgate announced plans to adapt the sequel, and both Sweeney and Morrone were confirmed to reprise their roles.
Director Paul Feig is also set to return, with Sweeney and Freida McFadden, the author of the source novels, serving as executive producers for the adaptation. The project is shaping up to feature an impressive ensemble, as Kirsten Dunst recently joined the cast in an undisclosed role, while Paul Anthony Kelly has been cast as Douglas Garrick.
Further enhancements to the lineup were revealed in August, with Stephen Kalyn from “Off Campus” and “Gen V” taking on the character Brock, and Brittany Snow joining as Marybeth. The trajectory of the narrative in “The Housemaid’s Secret” promises to explore the darker facets of Millie’s new assignment, as she navigates the secrets hidden behind closed doors and the complexities of her own past.
Despite the conclusion of Nina’s arc in the first film, Amanda Seyfried, who portrayed Nina, previously expressed interest in returning for a cameo. At the Palm Springs International Film Festival, she hinted at the potential for her character to make a small appearance, noting, “I really want to see how she keeps Nina Winchester in her pocket, because I will jump the f— back into that.”
Set to hit cinemas on December 17, 2027, “The Housemaid’s Secret” is poised to build on the momentum of its predecessor. With an intriguing storyline and a stellar cast, anticipation is growing among fans eager to see where Millie and Enzo’s journey will take them next.
As filming progresses, supporters of the franchise can expect more updates and glimpses behind the scenes as the release date approaches. With both Sweeney and Morrone committed to bringing the characters back to life, the sequel looks to be another gripping addition to Freida McFadden’s literary universe.
Overall, the return of Sweeney and Morrone points towards further explorations of the themes that resonated so deeply with audiences in the original film, and the cinematic community is undoubtedly watching closely to see how the story unfolds in this exciting sequel.
