Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to reprise their iconic roles in a new addition to the renowned Mummy franchise, with their third film together due to hit theatres on 15 October 2027. The duo, who first captivated audiences with their performances in the original 1999 film and its sequel, The Mummy Returns, have been spotted on set for the untitled project, much to the excitement of fans.
On 14 October 2026, images emerged of Fraser and Weisz donning their costumes while filming in London. Fraser, now 57, is returning as the adventurous Rick O’Connell, while Weisz, 56, will once again portray his resourceful counterpart, Evelyn Carnahan. The actors were last seen together in the series in 2008, when Fraser reprised his role in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Weisz, however, did not return for that film, with her character being played by Maria Bello instead.

The new film is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, notable for their work on the Scream series and Ready or Not. The screenplay is penned by David Coggeshall, whose previous projects include Matchbox the Movie and The Family Plan. While specific plot details are still under wraps, reports suggest that the upcoming film will disregard the events of the previous entry, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, paving a fresh path for the beloved characters.

Fraser and Weisz were first linked to the project in November 2025, generating widespread anticipation among fans eager for a return to the action-packed world of ancient curses and thrilling escapades. Photographs captured on set show the actors in character, with Weisz wearing a dark red skirt and matching overcoat, complemented by a black belt, while Fraser sported a brown jacket over a plaid shirt, suggesting a blend of nostalgia and a modern touch.
Joining the cast are familiar faces from previous films, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr, as well as Numan Acar from Young Sherlock, and Michael Johnston, who gained acclaim this year for his role in the series Obsession. The interplay between returning and new characters promises to enhance the film’s appeal.
After the announcement of production in September, Fraser excitedly confirmed during an interview with French channel Canal+ that the filming had officially commenced. He described the project as a long-awaited return to form for the franchise, indicating that it would satisfy the audience’s hunger for the characters’ adventures.
“We’re going back to the locations that made the franchise what it is,” Fraser hinted, leaving fans intrigued and eager for the film’s release. He also mentioned the challenges of preparing for the role at 57, showcasing his commitment to authentically portray the action hero once more.
Since winning an Academy Award in 2023 for his performance in The Whale, Fraser has continued to delve into diverse roles, appearing in films such as Killers of the Flower Moon and the simply titled Pressure, in which he took on the role of historical figure Dwight Eisenhower. Meanwhile, Weisz, who won an Oscar in 2006 for her role in The Constant Gardener, has remained relatively absent from the big screen since her participation in the Marvel film Black Widow in 2021, although she recently starred in the Netflix series Vladimir alongside Leo Woodall.
As excitement builds for The Mummy’s new chapter, fans will eagerly await more details about the storyline and further glimpses of Fraser and Weisz’s reunion on screen. The film promises to blend nostalgia with modern filmmaking techniques, aiming to capture the essence that made the original films so beloved.
With its planned release in October 2027, this new instalment of The Mummy franchise is already generating significant buzz within the film community. As the production progresses, updates are expected to emerge, offering fans a closer look at what they can anticipate from this exciting comeback of two of cinema’s cherished adventurers.
