The highly anticipated Disney+ series *VisionQuest* is set to launch on 13 October 2026. This upcoming show marks a significant moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as it draws a trilogy to a close, following on from *WandaVision* and its spin-off, *Agatha All Along*. Fans can look forward to the returns of Paul Bettany and James Spader, who will reprise their respective roles as Vision and Ultron.

In *VisionQuest*, Bettany’s character, Vision, finds himself in a precarious situation, navigating life with a bounty on his head. In his journey, he enlists the help of several AI personas, making the series not only a continuation of established narratives but also a fresh exploration of characters. Bettany expressed enthusiasm about Spader’s return to the franchise, describing his co-star’s performance as “delicious” and highlighting their enjoyable collaboration on set.
Bettany, reflecting on the creative direction of the show, stated, “It manages to feel very much like it’s somehow a part of that world, an end to a trilogy of sorts, whilst also being very much its own thing, and it is just really good. I’m really proud of it.” His excitement hints at a series that balances the intricate lore of the MCU while delivering a unique storyline.
James Spader’s return as Ultron, his first since the 2015 film *Avengers: Age of Ultron*, is particularly noteworthy. When discussing his decision to rejoin the MCU, Spader mentioned that he committed to the project based solely on his conversations with showrunner Terry Matalas, without having seen a script. Spader acknowledged the critical role Ultron plays in the new narrative, suggesting that the series would be vastly different without the character’s involvement.
Ruaridh Mollica joins the cast as Thomas Shepard, described as a “mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son reincarnate”. Mollica spoke about the challenge of keeping details under wraps, stating, “It is very hard to keep a secret… you want the suspense to build, you want to pull people in, and things to be a beautiful surprise.” His enthusiasm for the project reflects the tone of secrecy that often surrounds Marvel productions, which are known for their intricate plots and surprising twists.
Adding to the diverse cast, Todd Stashwick takes on the role of Paladin, a bounty hunter in this thrilling series. Stashwick’s collaboration with Matalas is not new; the two previously worked together on *12 Monkeys* and *Star Trek: Picard*. His experience in the industry and familiarity with the showrunner may contribute to an engaging performance in *VisionQuest*.
Also featuring in the series is Emily Hampshire, who plays E.D.I.T.H., a thrill-seeking AI originally created by Tony Stark. Hampshire, well-known for her role in *Schitt’s Creek*, has previously collaborated with Matalas in *12 Monkeys*, which lends her familiarity to the Marvel universe.
James D’Arcy returns as J.A.R.V.I.S., his character originally introduced in *Agent Carter* and who has appeared in numerous Marvel projects since. Meanwhile, Orla Brady takes on the role of F.R.I.D.A.Y., another AI character, adding to the series’ technological intrigue and supporting the narrative surrounding Vision’s challenges.
Newcomer Lauren Morais, who plays Lisa Molinari, has expressed her excitement about joining such a talented ensemble, stating, “It’s incredible!!” As the series progresses, her character’s role may become pivotal, potentially offering new dynamics in Vision’s storyline.
T’Nia Miller’s performance as Jocasta has also garnered attention from Matalas, who hailed it as “revelatory” and hinted at a nuanced portrayal that would resonate with audiences. Miller’s previous work has demonstrated her range as an actress, suggesting her character will significantly contribute to the series’ emotional depth.
Lastly, Diane Morgan rounds out the cast, though details about her character remain under wraps. Morgan’s previous experience in shows like *Mandy* and *Alan Partridge* positions her as an appealing addition to the ensemble, expected to bring fresh energy to the upcoming series.
*VisionQuest* promises to be a captivating continuation of Marvel’s storytelling, weaving together familiar characters and new narratives. With a strong cast and an intriguing premise, the series is likely to attract both long-time fans and newcomers to the MCU. As the premiere date approaches, anticipation grows for what promises to be an adventure filled with action, humour, and deep emotional threads.
