Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, best known for their roles in the acclaimed series ‘Breaking Bad,’ have successfully ventured into the world of spirits with their artisanal beverage brand, Dos Hombres. Since its inception in 2019, the brand has not only celebrated the rich traditions of mezcal and tequila but has also made significant contributions to the communities in Mexico where the spirits are produced.

In a recent interview, Cranston reflected on the journey of establishing Dos Hombres. Initially hesitant about the venture, the actor admitted that a negative experience with mezcal during his youth made him wary of the spirit. “I had a bad experience with mezcal when I was young. I tasted one and thought, ‘Oh God, I don’t ever, ever want to taste that again,’” he recalled. However, a chance encounter with Paul reignited his interest in the beverage.
The partnership, which blossomed post-‘Breaking Bad’, began during a dinner in New York. Cranston and Paul reminisced about their time on set when Paul proposed the bold idea of launching a mezcal company. Cranston found the suggestion amusing at first, dismissing it as “a terrible idea.” Nevertheless, a visit to a mezcal bar where he tasted high-quality varieties shifted his perspective. “I realised for 40-some odd years, I pushed [mezcal] away because I had a bad one,” he noted, highlighting the transformative nature of discovering artisanal spirits.
Dos Hombres initially launched with Espadin mezcal, crafted from Agave Espadin under the supervision of Gregorio Velasco. Soon after, they expanded their offerings to include Tobala mezcal, produced by Julio Cova, which has since garnered a positive reception among industry enthusiasts.
Recognising the importance of quality, Cranston emphasised the commitment to purity and excellence in their products. “Whatever you do, make it great,” he advised, reinforcing the absence of additives in their spirits. The pair maintain a simple production approach, using only agave and spring water, resulting in a low-calorie drink that stands out in a crowded market.
The brand’s name, Dos Hombres, which translates to “Two Men” in Spanish, reflects the co-founders’ humble backgrounds. Cranston described it as a convenient placeholder that resonated with their identity. “There’s nothing fancy about it, and that’s the way Aaron and I see each other, as just two guys,” he explained. Their shared blue-collar roots and strong work ethic have shaped the core principles of their business.
Recently, Dos Hombres made headlines by opening its first branded bar at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. This new venture is part of their broader strategy to expand their reach and connect directly with consumers. As the brand grows, Cranston has expressed enthusiasm for continuous learning and improvement within the industry.
In addition to its success in the market, Dos Hombres is dedicated to giving back to the communities engaged in the production of its spirits. The co-founders established funds to assist in local initiatives, making substantial contributions to improve the quality of life for residents in San Luis Del Rio, where their mezcal is produced.
Cranston shared several impactful projects launched through these funds. For instance, a state-of-the-art water filtration system was installed for community use, providing essential access to clean drinking water. Moreover, they paved a perilous dirt road that isolated schoolchildren from their educational institutions during adverse weather conditions.
Looking ahead, the duo is considering further support for the community in Jalisco, where their tequila is sourced. “The most obvious and at the top of the priority list is a medical centre,” Cranston stated. The need for accessible healthcare is pressing, and they aim to facilitate medical training for locals in basic first aid.
The philanthropic approach of Dos Hombres underscores Cranston and Paul’s commitment to balancing business and community stewardship. They have created a brand that resonates not only for its quality spirits but also for its dedication to making a difference. As they continue to expand their brand, both men remain optimistic about the impact they can have on local communities while celebrating the festive spirit of mezcal and tequila.
