Wladimir Klitschko has taken steps to secure temporary guardianship of the estate of his late ex-fiancée, Hayden Panettiere, primarily for the benefit of their daughter, Kaya. The former heavyweight boxing champion recently filed documents that detail his concerns regarding the management of Panettiere’s assets following her untimely death.

Panettiere passed away unexpectedly on 16 August at the age of 36. She was discovered unresponsive in a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, and pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter, despite attempts by first responders to provide medical assistance. An official investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is currently ongoing.
In his latest motion, Klitschko expressed serious concerns regarding the safety of Panettiere’s belongings, which include valuable items believed to be her jewellery. He claims to have received information suggesting that a non-family member who previously had access to Panettiere’s possessions has sold some of these items to a pawn shop. The pawn shop has stated it will not release these items without intervention from law enforcement.

Klitschko, now 50, is pleading for assistance from police to recover Panettiere’s property, which he argues is vital for Kaya, their 11-year-old daughter, who is the sole inheritor of Panettiere’s estate. His filing highlights the urgency of the situation, stating a real fear that if immediate action is not taken, there is a significant risk that valuable property belonging to Panettiere’s estate could be either lost or damaged.
Since the beginning of this legal process, Klitschko has continuously emphasised the need for swift action. He previously filed for temporary guardianship, stating that without it, Kaya’s inheritance could be placed in jeopardy. “The direct financial detriment of Kaya” is a central theme in his arguments, underlining his focus on protecting their daughter’s interests during this challenging time.
Klitschko’s concerns extend beyond just the loss of physical items. He also alleges that before her passing, Panettiere had hired a security service to protect her home due to documented threats from an individual who had gained unauthorised access to her property. Furthermore, he claims that Panettiere’s locks had been changed and that valuables were moved as a precautionary measure. Klitschko is apprehensive that the individual may continue to attempt to misappropriately access items belonging to Panettiere’s estate.
Additionally, in his filings, he suggested that individuals associated with Panettiere have interfered with her digital correspondence. Klitschko alleges that non-family members may have accessed and destroyed Panettiere’s emails, complicating the estate management process even further.
Klitschko and Panettiere first met in 2008 and became engaged five years later, culminating in the birth of their daughter, Kaya, in 2014. Following their breakup in 2018, Klitschko secured full custody of Kaya, a testament to their mutual commitment to co-parenting despite personal differences.
In the wake of Panettiere’s passing, Klitschko has expressed his deep sorrow online, conveying that the family is grappling with “profound shock and grief.” He acknowledged that, although they were no longer together, Panettiere remained an essential part of his life and the mother of their child.
As legal proceedings continue, Klitschko remains focused on safeguarding Panettiere’s legacy and ensuring Kaya’s rights and inheritance are protected. The situation highlights not only the emotional turmoil facing those involved but also the complexities of managing a celebrity estate amid personal loss and potential exploitation.
