Growing up surrounded by renowned figures in the entertainment industry, including her uncle, filmmaker Christopher Guest, and aunt, actress Jamie Lee Curtis, one might expect a childhood steeped in glitz and glamour. However, Elizabeth describes her upbringing as surprisingly standard. “It was a pretty normal upbringing,” she recalls, pointing out that many of her friends in Los Angeles had relatives involved in film and television as well.

She shares anecdotes of her relatives attending her school events, sparking mild curiosity among her peers. “Occasionally, one of my famous relatives would show up at a school recital, and that would generate a bit of chatter,” she remembers. Notably, her father, actor Nicholas Guest, was a part of the cast of the beloved holiday film *Christmas Vacation*, giving Elizabeth an early insight into the industry.
Despite her family’s influence in Hollywood, Elizabeth stresses that she did not have an easy entry into filmmaking. While pursuing her studies at the University of Southern California (USC), she focused on developing her comedic voice and eventually created a web series titled *Guest Appearances*. This series served as a crucial step in her career, functioning as a proof of concept for her current film project.
Her breakthrough comes as *A Very Merry Breakup* was acquired by Tribeca Films, indicating a growing recognition of her talent in the competitive Hollywood landscape. “If I hadn’t made the web series, I don’t think I would have reached this point,” she reflects. “Making a movie can feel incredibly overwhelming, but I always encourage others to focus on the work at hand rather than worrying about the sales aspect.”
The writing for *A Very Merry Breakup* resonates with many young adults navigating the complexities of modern romance. Guest’s own romantic trials inspired the film’s narrative, where she portrays a character reminiscent of Larry David from *Curb Your Enthusiasm*, who embodies both the antagonist and the solution. “In many ways, the men are fine, but it’s the female character who must unravel and address her own issues,” she observes.
As Elizabeth contemplates the dating experience for her generation, she emphasises its humorous and perplexing nature. “For many in their twenties, the dating world can be quite overwhelming, yet amusing at the same time,” she notes. This personal connection to the themes of her film contributes to its authenticity and relatable charm.
Now, as her film prepares for release, Guest expresses gratitude for the path she has carved for herself through hard work and creativity. “I feel my happiest when I’m engaged in creative pursuits and being productive,” she admits. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see all the effort we put into this project come to fruition, and I am excited for audiences to experience it.”
With her debut film, Elizabeth Guest is not only following in her family’s footsteps but also paving her own unique path in the world of comedy. As the release date approaches, audiences are eager to discover the blend of humour and heartfelt moments in *A Very Merry Breakup*.
