Kristi Noem, the former governor of South Dakota, has filed for divorce from her husband, Bryon Noem, marking a significant turn in their long-standing relationship. The petition was lodged in Hamlin County on September 28, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the dissolution of their 34-year marriage.

The couple’s relationship has come under scrutiny following a series of revelations about Bryon’s involvement in online communities linked to “bimbofication,” a term associated with fetishised role-playing centred around hyper-femininity and body modification. Reports surfaced earlier this year, prompting discussions surrounding the couple’s personal life. Bryon did not contest the information regarding his online activities but firmly denied allegations of infidelity involving his wife.

In response to Kristi’s decision to end their marriage, Bryon expressed his sorrow and hope for an amicable resolution to their divorce proceedings. A statement released by his attorney noted that he is keen to protect their family while moving forward as co-parents and grandparents. Should court proceedings become necessary, he is prepared to present his side of the story truthfully.
Kristi, aged 54, and Bryon, 56, share three adult children: daughters Kassidy and Kennedy and son Booker. They are also grandparents to Kassidy and Kennedy’s children. Kristi’s attorney, Michael K. Sabers, stated that she has confidence in the South Dakota judicial system and intends to refrain from further public comments until the legal process unfolds.
The couple’s relationship dates back to their high school years in South Dakota, where they first met. After graduating from Northern State University, Bryon worked in various roles, including coaching basketball and running a crop insurance agency. Kristi’s political career began in 2006 when she was elected to the South Dakota legislature; she later served two terms as governor beginning in 2019.
The announcement of the divorce follows months of media attention surrounding the Noems. Earlier reports indicated that Kristi had been “blindsided” by the revelations about Bryon’s online engagements and had expressed feelings of devastation over the situation. Furthermore, in addition to the scrutiny concerning Bryon, Kristi also faced questions about a speculated romantic relationship with Corey Lewandowski, a political ally of Donald Trump. While both have publicly denied any wrongdoing, such allegations have only intensified scrutiny on their marriage.
In a significant political move, Kristi Noem was nominated by Donald Trump in 2024 to serve as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, although she was later removed from this post in March. She now leads a Western Hemisphere security initiative, known as Shield of the Americas.
The Noems’ divorce continues to capture public interest, not only due to its personal ramifications but also because of Kristi’s high-profile political status. As the legal proceedings unfold, both parties have indicated a desire to handle the situation quietly and respectfully, prioritising their family amidst the turmoil.
As the situation progresses, it remains to be seen how this split will impact Kristi’s political aspirations and her public life, which has always remained closely tied to her marriage. With a decades-long partnership now in jeopardy and a shared family legacy at stake, the coming weeks will undoubtedly be pivotal for both Bryon and Kristi Noem.
