TV personality Sai De Silva has candidly shared the reasons behind her split from husband David Craig in a revealing episode of *The Real Housewives of New York City* (RHONY) that aired on September 28. The couple, who were married for nearly a decade, saw their relationship reach a turning point that ultimately led to Craig filing for divorce on April 2, 2026.

Speaking with her aunt Sufia, De Silva, aged 45, reflected on the lack of affection in her marriage and the absence of romantic outings. She revealed a pivotal moment during a celebratory dinner for her 45th birthday, where she initially felt a rekindling of intimacy with Craig. However, her feelings quickly turned sour when she realised that the lavish meal they had enjoyed had been charged to her credit card, prompting her to question the sincerity of their relationship.
De Silva recounted, “He takes me to a very expensive restaurant, and we had a beautiful time… However, I started looking at all the credit card bills, only to realise the dinner is on my credit card.” Her discontent escalated when she confronted Craig about having her pay for her own birthday dinner, leading her to conclude, “And that’s when I knew… What’s left?”
In her exchange with Sufia, De Silva pondered Craig’s motivations for remaining in a marriage devoid of warmth. She speculated that he might have enjoyed “the illusion of being my husband” and valued the lifestyle that came with their family unit, rather than a genuine emotional connection.
The divorce proceedings, which were marked as “contested” when filed, led De Silva to keep largely silent about the events leading to the breakdown of their marriage. However, she later opened up to her fellow RHONY star Jessel Taank on the premiere of Season 16, expressing her feelings of isolation and the sense that they had grown apart. “We do nothing together… I feel so alone,” she lamented, reinforcing her sense of separation from Craig.
In the wake of their divorce filing, De Silva expressed feelings of financial responsibility for their family, which consists of their two children: 15-year-old daughter London and nine-year-old son Rio. Reflecting on the emotional toll of their disintegrating relationship, she admitted to feeling “very lonely” and recognised that both she and Craig were equally at fault for its deterioration.
De Silva candidly acknowledged the changes both she and Craig have undergone since their marriage. “I’m not the same person I was when I was 28 years old, and I’m sure he’s not either,” she noted, adding, “Marriage, if you don’t grow together, you grow apart, and a lot of things have grown apart between us.”
Describing her journey, De Silva revealed a desire to drop the “facade” she felt she had been upholding. “I think for a long time I was walking around as if I was invincible… and I am done with it,” she stated, indicating a new phase of vulnerability and authenticity in her life post-divorce.
In a more personal essay published on her Substack on September 9, De Silva articulated her readiness to embrace life on her own terms, writing, “I feel like I’m finally ready to start living. Living for me. Living unapologetically, authentically, transparently.” This message resonated deeply with her fans, as she navigates this significant transition.
As the reality star continues to share her experiences through the episodes of RHONY, viewers can tune in every Tuesday for new installments, which also stream the following day on Peacock. De Silva’s journey is not just one of pain but also of rediscovery and empowerment, as she embarks on a new chapter in her life.
