The 28-year-old artist initially signed a four-album contract with Polydor Records in 2014, but her quest to release her debut album became fraught with challenges. After years of waiting, RAYE took to social media in June 2021, expressing her frustrations openly. She declared, “I’ve done everything they asked me, I switched genres, I worked 7 days a week… I’m done being a polite pop star. I want to make my album now, please that is all I want.”
