A Florida woman has been charged with multiple counts of felony child neglect after allegedly leaving her four young children unattended while she went on a three-day cruise to the Bahamas. Nathalie Belizaire, 29, was taken into custody on Monday, September 28, shortly after returning to Miami from the Carnival Conquest.

The incident came to light when the father of Belizaire’s youngest child, a two-month-old infant, discovered that the children were alone in her apartment while she was away. The father became concerned upon seeing a WhatsApp post from Belizaire that appeared to show a cruise ticket. After speaking with her, he was told the children would be staying with their great-grandmother. However, when he visited the apartment on September 26, he heard the children inside and noticed the television was on, prompting him to call emergency services.
Emergency responders, including police and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, arrived at the apartment and had to force their way in. Inside, they found all four children – aged two months, two years, and two older siblings – huddled together in a bathroom. This alarming discovery prompted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their care.
Authorities spoke with the children’s great-grandmother, who indicated that she had not been informed about Belizaire’s plans to drop off the children with her. Additionally, Belizaire’s brother reported receiving a message from her on the evening of September 26, asking him to check on the children, further complicating the narrative presented by the mother.
When attempts to reach Belizaire directly failed, police officers from both the North Miami Beach Police Department and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office went to PortMiami, where they were able to apprehend her as she disembarked from her cruise. Customs and Border Protection officers facilitated the arrest before she was handed over to the local police department.
According to the police report, Belizaire is accused of “failing to provide the necessary care and supervision” for her children, which allegedly placed them at significant risk. Following her arrest, Belizaire was brought before a bond court on September 29, where her bond was set at £10,000. She has been ordered to stay away from her children, who are currently in foster care and reported to be safe following the ordeal.
At this time, Belizaire has not entered a plea regarding the charges against her, and an arraignment hearing is set for November 24. Reports suggest that her legal representation has denied the allegations and is preparing a defence.
