2-Year-Old Boy Found Dead in Retention Pond Hours After He Was Reported Missing

A two-year-old boy has tragically been found dead in a retention pond in Columbus following a major search operation. The Columbus Division of Police reported that Beeny Mbo was last seen on Sunday, 27th September, around Antares Avenue and Polaris Parkway.

Authorities were alerted to Beeny’s disappearance just after 10 a.m. on the day of the incident. In response, the police quickly issued a missing child alert via their social media platforms. Beeny was described as having black hair and brown eyes, weighing approximately 30 pounds and measuring about three feet tall. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a grey shirt and grey trousers. A flyer with his details, including a photograph, was circulated to aid in the search.

Police officers arrived at the Polaris Place apartment complex promptly after receiving the missing child report. The urgency of the situation was underscored by the immediate involvement of the department’s Missing Persons Unit, which collaborated with a dive team and the Homicide Bureau to coordinate further efforts.

The search mobilised extensive resources. Helicopters, drones, K9 units, and a fixed-wing plane were deployed to assist in the search operation. Local residents also joined in efforts to locate Beeny, with many expressing concern for the wellbeing of the young child. Among them was Cesia Young, who resonated with the urgency of the situation due to having a toddler of her own. “My husband and I have a 2-year-old, so I looked at my 2-year-old and we were like, ‘Oh my gosh, we need to help,’” she stated.

Despite the extensive search efforts that lasted several hours, despair struck when a dive team located a body in the nearby retention pond. The identity of the deceased was confirmed as Beeny, and he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:46 p.m. The distressing discovery led the police to declare that there was no suspicion of foul play and that Beeny’s death appeared to be the result of an accidental drowning.

The Delaware County Coroner’s Office also attended the scene to assist with the processing of the investigation. In light of these tragic events, the Homicide Bureau has assumed responsibility for the inquiry into Beeny’s death, although initial findings suggest that no criminal activity was involved.
