The dog, once abandoned and injured after being struck by a vehicle, has captured the hearts of millions online, thanks to her rescuers, Nick Reilly and Alli Jaeger, who document their efforts through social media.

Reilly, 30, and Jaeger, 27, known collectively as Expedition Ola, were on holiday when they stumbled upon Birdie in July. According to their Instagram account, the couple found her struggling to move and quickly sought to help. “A local man informed us that she had been hit by a car around two months earlier. He was quite happy for us to take her and provide the care she desperately needed,” they stated in a post.

Initially hopeful about Birdie’s recovery, the couple soon realised the gravity of her condition after veterinary examinations revealed that her spine had been severed. This unfortunate diagnosis indicated that the dog would never walk again. “We had to face the reality that, despite our initial optimism, Birdie wouldn’t regain mobility without assistance,” they explained.
