Flags across Maryland flew at half-mast following the tragic passing of Denton Police Chief George William Bacorn Jr., who died in a head-on collision on Friday, September 25. Chief Bacorn, aged 62, had dedicated an impressive 36 years of service to the Denton Police Department and was recently elected head of the Maryland Municipal League Chiefs and Sheriffs Association this year.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 11:30 AM local time on Maryland Route 331 in Talbot County. According to a news release from the Maryland State Police (MSP), a preliminary investigation revealed that Bacorn was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe when a Ford Transit delivery truck, travelling westbound, crossed the double-yellow line for reasons still under investigation. The truck initially struck the side mirror of a Chevrolet Silverado and subsequently collided head-on with Bacorn’s vehicle. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
The driver of the delivery truck, identified as 31-year-old Antonio Jaquan Handy from Salisbury, was rushed to a local trauma centre, but no other injuries were reported in the collision.
