A popular ground cinnamon product, Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning, is being recalled following concerns regarding elevated lead levels detected in a sample. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made the announcement on Thursday, urging consumers to take precautionary measures regarding the product distributed by Galil Importing Corp., based in Hauppauge, New York.
The recall affects cinnamon seasoning sold in 90-gram transparent plastic containers, typically packaged in cases of six. Known for its distinctive taste, Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning was made available in various retail outlets, grocery stores, delis, and supermarkets across six states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida, and Illinois. The distribution period spanned from November 18, 2025, to September 7, 2026.
The product under scrutiny has the UPC number 794711005484 and is identifiable by the lot code GAP11304, which can be found on the container’s side beneath the ingredient list.
The recall was initiated after a sample analysed by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) revealed concerning lead levels. Fortunately, there have been no reports of illnesses linked to the product thus far. In response to the findings, Galil Importing Corp. acted swiftly to recall the product and advised retailers to halt their distribution and sales while placing any remaining inventory on hold.
The FDA has strongly advised consumers against consuming Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning. They recommend that customers either discard the product, or return it to the retailer for a full refund. Authorities state that short-term exposure to low levels of lead may not always present immediate symptoms; however, elevated blood lead levels can indicate exposure.
