The event, which was presented by Live Nation, saw Common honoured with the prestigious Harry Belafonte Change Agent Award, recognising his contributions to the community and social justice.

In an interview with People, the 54-year-old artist reflected on Hudson’s remarkable character and tenacity, highlighting her ability to radiate joy despite facing personal challenges. “We talk about soul and heart. She embodies that to the highest level,” Common stated, praising Hudson’s impact not only as an artist but as a human being deeply committed to her values.
Jennifer Hudson, 45, has made headlines since the couple first sparked dating rumours in 2022. They made their relationship public in January 2024, and since then, their bond has only grown stronger. Common underscored Hudson’s caring nature, noting, “She cares about people, she cares about God, she cares about her family.” He spoke about the numerous adversities she has endured throughout her life, saying, “Some of the most difficult things that any human being could experience in life, and she still has a light to her. She still brings joy.”

While expressing his views on the matter, Common maintained a proactive attitude towards AI, encouraging education and understanding rather than fear. “AI is here,” he noted candidly. It was clear from his remarks that he believes human creativity and connection cannot be replicated by machines. “No matter what, you’re still gonna need human expression, human connection, human creativity. You can’t create that or recreate that,” he affirmed.
