Sir Rod Stewart’s health has become a topic of discussion as his wife, Penny Lancaster, recently provided insights into his recovery following a medical procedure. The 81-year-old rock icon had to cancel his tour dates after it was revealed that he underwent a routine coronary stent procedure due to an underlying heart condition.
Speaking on the podcast “At Home With Vanessa,” Lancaster shared that the doctors identified the heart issue after Stewart experienced a couple of upper respiratory infections. This predicament became evident when he nearly fainted onstage in Utah during a performance. Lancaster emphasised that altitude can be challenging for anyone, but this particular incident led to the discovery of a slight blockage in his heart.

Lancaster expressed relief that the health issue was identified in a timely manner. “Fortunately, he was at the right time, at the right place, and they detected a slight blockage which needed a stent,” she stated, noting that it is quite common for individuals over the age of 65 to require such procedures.

Following the surgery, Stewart’s team issued a statement confirming that he was recuperating well and was advised to take a break for approximately four weeks to fully regain his strength. The announcement also indicated that he had been required to cancel several upcoming tour dates, including six performances in Las Vegas slated for late August.
Despite the setback, Penny Lancaster conveyed a positive outlook on her husband’s recovery. She assured fans that Stewart was doing well and is eager to return to the stage. “He’s great, he’s eager to get back onstage,” she said, indicating that the rock star’s passion for performing remains undiminished.
During the podcast, Lancaster provided insight into Stewart’s pre-performance routine, illustrating the intensity with which he approaches his concerts. She described how he warms up his voice, uses a cycling machine, and prepares himself energetically before stepping onto the stage. “Once he gets onstage, he doesn’t just walk on, like he runs on,” she recounted, highlighting his robust performance style that typically lasts an hour and a half to two hours. After a few songs, he often emerges from the experience “dripping wet” but manages to maintain his high energy level throughout the show.
In light of the recent health scare, Lancaster mentioned that they are being careful to adhere to medical advice. “Between me and my brother, his trainer, and doctors, we’re not letting him get away with it. He has to do as he’s told,” she insisted, adding that Stewart’s health is the priority as he resumes his active lifestyle.
Looking to the future, Stewart has already announced multiple tour dates in the United States for 2027, with performances scheduled in states such as Florida, Georgia, and Colorado. This indicates his determination to return to the entertainment circuit and continue sharing his music with fans.
As Stewart recuperates, his supporters remain hopeful for his swift return to the stage. With the backing of his family and medical professionals, the legendary musician seems set on overcoming this health hurdle and resuming his illustrious career.
