### Arkansas Couple Charged with Abduction and Sexual Assault of 12-Year-Old Girl

An Arkansas couple has been charged with serious felonies in connection with the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl from South Carolina. Brandon Lee Britten, aged 31, and Sierra Dawn Britten, aged 28, each face three felony charges related to the case, raising serious concerns about child safety and online predation.
According to an affidavit, the case came to light on 9 September 2023, when the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office alerted the Independence County Sheriff’s Department about the missing minor. Investigators had information indicating that the girl was taken away in a black Chevrolet Malibu, which was registered in Arkansas.
Law enforcement officers traced the vehicle to the Brittens’ property in Independence County. When authorities arrived, they found the car parked outside the couple’s home. After several attempts to get a response, Brandon and Sierra eventually answered the door. Investigators allege that Brandon informed them that the missing girl was indeed inside the residence.
Once inside, officials claim that they found the child in a bathroom. She was promptly taken into custody and transported to a Child Safety Centre, where she underwent both a forensic interview and a medical examination. During this process, the girl revealed to investigators that she believed she had been chatting online with a teenage boy and thought she was meeting him in person. She identified Sierra as the boy’s roommate.
Further allegations from the girl indicated that after arriving at the Brittens’ home, Brandon took her to a bedroom and sexually assaulted her. This shocking revelation underscores the dangers associated with online interactions, particularly for vulnerable children.
Sierra Britten was interviewed the following day, where she reportedly admitted that she and Brandon had been in contact with the girl for about a month. They allegedly communicated through video calls, during which nude images were exchanged. Sierra is also said to have helped facilitate Brandon’s travel plans to South Carolina to pick up the girl, coordinating these plans around her work commitments.
During her interrogation, Sierra initially claimed she believed the girl was 18. However, she later adjusted her statement, suggesting that she thought the girl was 14 years old instead. This raises troubling questions about the couple’s awareness of the girl’s true age and the legality of their actions.
Court documents reveal that a judge approved a finding of probable cause for Brandon Britten’s arrest on 15 September. Both Brandon and Sierra now face three felony charges, which include rape, internet stalking of a child, and travelling to commit unlawful acts with a minor. Their bail has been set at $1 million each, reflecting the severity of the allegations against them.
The Independence County Sheriff’s Department has publicised the charges on social media, noting that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working diligently to uncover all aspects of the case, ensuring that justice is served and that the young victim receives the necessary support.
